Microsoft Access Version Checking Program from Aylott Computing

ACCVER

Version 1.01

Introduction:

If you have two or more versions of Access on your PC you will know how
difficult it is to remember which version of MS Access you need for each
MDB or MDA file.

ACCVER automatically detects which version of MS Access created the file
and opens the appropriate version. If the file was created using a version
no longer on your PC (eg MS Access 95) then it will use the next appropriate
version (eg MS Access 97).

Options are available to display the database version or open the
appropriate version of Access.

Installation and Operation:

Copy ACCVER.EXE and README.TXT (this file) into any folder (eg C:\WINUTILS).

You may also need to install the VB5 run-time files. You can download
these files from http://www.bigfoot.com/~daylott/software.htm

These additional files (supplied with ACCVER) will also need to be installed
in the following folders:

program files\common\microsoft shared\dao\dao350.dll
windows\system\comdlg32.ocx

Now run ACCVER.EXE by double clicking on it.

You will see the paths to each version of MS Access installed on your PC.
If the paths are wrong, select the 'Browse' button and locate the correct
filename.

If, for example, you do not have Access 95 on your PC and wish all Access 95
files to be opened with Access 97 then select the Browse button to the right
of Access 95 and locate the MSACCESS.EXE for Access 97
(eg C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\MSACCESS.EXE).

When you close the form by clicking on OK, it will setup two menu items for
MDB & MDA files. To see these menu items, right clicking on the MDB or MDA
file from Explorer.

AccVer - starts the appropriate version of Access
CheckVersion - displays the version of the MDB file

A check box on the form allows you to make ACCVER the default program for
MDB & MDA files. After checking (ticking) this box, double click on an MDB
or MDA file from explorer and the appropriate version of MS Access will be
opened automatically. Alternatively, make a shortcut to the file and when
you run it, the appropriate version of MS Access will be started
automatically.

If you do not want ACCVER to be the default program, leave the box unchecked
(empty). You can still use ACCVER by right clicking on the MDB file and,
instead of choosing 'Open', choose 'AccVer'.

You can change your selection at any time by simply running ACCVER.EXE.

Limitations:

* The current version of ACCVER detects and reports v1.0 and v1.1 MDB files
but will not start MS Access.

* MS Access 2000 is not currently supported

Uninstalling:

Run ACCVER.EXE from Explorer and select the 'Restore Defaults' button.
You can now delete the files you installed previously.

You do not need to uninstall the VB5 run-time files as they may be
useful for other programs. However, an uninstall routine is available
if required via the Control Panel.

Payment:

The commercial version of ACCVER is available for just US$5 per PC.
Site licences are also available - please e-mail us for more
information and let us know how many PC you want to run ACCVER on.

Full support and free upgrades are available to registered users
of the commercial version.
