MVIEW STARTUP
THIS IS MVIEW WHEN IT IS STARTED, WITH THE GETLIST FRAME ENABLED

Select a drive by clikking its DRIVE SELECT BUTTON. Select a folder by clikking it in the DIRECTORY LIST BOX. Select the
types of files to find by setting the WILDCARD PATTERN in the FILE PATTERN combo box. If the pattern is a full filename, e.g.
"Circles.bmp", then that's the only file that will be looked for. Setting the pattern to an extension, e.g. "*.BMP" will find all files of
that type. To search for more than one pattern, separate each pattern with a semicolon, e.g. "*.BMP;*.JPG". Clikking the down arrow
of the combo box will display a dropdown list of the patterns that have been used. Clikking one of those will set the box to that pattern.
Clikking a file in the FILENAMES list box will select that file. Holding down the Control key and clikking files will select multiple
files in any order. Holding down the left mouse button and dragging the mouse pointer down the list will "slur" a selection of contiguous
files. Clikking SELECT ALL will select all files in displayed in the list. Clik OK to display the files or CANCEL to hide the GETLIST
frame without changing the grid.

MVIEW PICTURE GRID
THIS IS THE MVIEW PICTURE GRID WITH NO FILES LOADED

The default grid is 3 columns by 3 rows. The number of columns and rows can be changed by clikking the N by N button and
typing the numbers into the input boxes.
Clikking GETLIST will display the GETLIST frame (refer to previous page).
Clikking REFRESH will reload the picture boxes. Clikking the SECT button will display the SECTION dialog box. MVIEW can be
re-sized & re-positioned to fill a particular "chunk" of the screen.
Clikking PRINT will print the entire form as-is.
Clikking the STRETCH button will toggle the STRETCH function on and off. When STRETCH is on, the button has a pressed
appearance.
If there are more files selected than the number of boxes in the grid, pressing the PAGEUP, PAGEDOWN, CNTL-UP_ARROW and
CNTL-DOWN_ARROW keys will scroll the grid.
Left-clikking an image will select it and add it to the COPYSET. The image will be hilited with a red rectangle. Left-clikking it again
will un-select it.

MVIEW
SELECTING FILES

REFER TO PAGE 2

You select files by pikking them in the FILENAMES listbox.
The filenames shown in the FILENAMES listbox are determined by the drive, folder and wildcard pattern.

First, you select the drive by clikking one of the DRIVE SELECT BUTTONS. If the drive is ready, the button changes to a "pressed"
look, and the other buttons change to "unpressed", similar to the way a group of radio buttons behave. (technically, they aren't radio
buttons). If the drive isn't ready, a dialog box appears prompting you to place a disk in the drive, then you would clik the OK button
or press enter to close the dialog box, put a disk in the drive and try again.
The number of DRIVE SELECT BUTTONS depends on how many LOGICAL DRIVES existed in your system when MVIEW was
started.

Next, you select a folder in the DIRECTORY LIST BOX by clikking it with the mouse or hiliting it with the arrow keys and pressing
ENTER. The DIRECTORY LIST BOX is a one-branch-at-a-time type of control. If the folder you want is a subfolder, you have to
clik the parent folder first, then the next subfolder, and so on until you get to the folder you want. The DIRECTORY LIST BOX won't
make a tree diagram.
By rite-clikking in the DIRECTORY LIST BOX, you can display a list of the last 50 paths that have been pikked. You can then change
directly to one of those paths by clikking it, or press escape to close list.
Each time you select a folder, the cotents of the FILENAMES list box changes to show the files that match the pattern in the FILE
PATTERN combo box.

Next, you set the type or types of files you want listed in the FILENAMES list box by setting the pattern in the FILE PATTERN combo
box. Set the focus to the box by clikking in it or pressing F5. Type a wildcard pattern in the box, e.g. "*.JPG", and press ENTER. The
FILENAMES list box will reload. If no files match, the list will go blank. You can specify more than one type of file at a time by
seperating each type with a semicolon, e.g. "*.BMP;*.JPG". Each time you enter a pattern in the box, it is saved in the dropdown list,
if it isn't there already. You can change to a previous pattern by clikking on the down arrow of the combo box and clikking one of the
patterns in the dropdown list.

Next, clik on a filename in the FILENAMES list box to hilite it. To select additional files that aren't next to it, hold down the control
key and clik more files. If the list is large, you can clik a file to hilite it, clik in the scrollbar to page down the list, and then hold down
the shift key and clik another file, and this will hilite that file and all the files in between. You can also select files by pressing F6 to change
the focus to the FILENAMES list box and then hold down the shift key and use the arrow keys. However, you can't make a broken
list using the arrow keys (not my fault). To select all the files in the list, clik the SELECT ALL button or press Alt-S.
After you have hilited the files you want, press ENTER or clik the OK button or rite-clik in the FILENAMES list box. The GETLIST
will disappear and the files will be displayed in the PICTURE GRID.

LOGGING A PATH
MVIEW has a pathlogger.
If you want to list the files in a folder and ALL OF ITS SUBFOLDERS, select the folder in the DIRECTORY LIST BOX and then
PRESS F2 (the F2 function key).
MVIEW will display a PROGRESS BOX that says "LOGGING SUBFOLDERS OF *" where * is the FULL PATH of the subfolder
currently being logged.
The filenames that match in all the subfolders will be listed in the FILENAMES list box sorted alfabettically as ONE BIG LIST.
They will not be grouped by subfolder.
How long this takes depends on how many files are in all the subfolders, wether they match or not. If you log the root directory of the
your boot drive (typically "C:\"), MVIEW will LOG THE ENTIRE DRIVE. That will take a while.
Usually, you will use this to log all the files in the temporary internet folder or a removable disk. After the files are logged you select
them the same as you would for one folder.

When you display the PICTURE GRID, the FILENAME TEXTBOXES will have the FULL PATH of each file. This can
be toggled on or off by pressing Alt-F7.

MVIEW
COPYING, MOVING, AND DELETING FILES

To copy, move, and delete files, they must be selected on the PICTURE GRID.

To select a file from the PICTURE GRID, left-clik its image. The image will be hilited with a red rectangle and its filespec
(its full name including its full path) will be added to the COPYSET. Left-clikking it again will un-hilite it and remove it from
the COPYSET.
To select all the files, INCLUDING the ones not shown in the grid, clik the SELECT ALL button with the left mouse button.
Clikking the SELECT ALL button with the rite mouse button un-selects all the files.
Once you have selected one or more files in the PICTURE GRID, the COPY, MOVE, and DELETE buttons will become
visible at the bottom of MVIEW in Frame2.

COPYING:
Clik the COPY button. The COPY TO confirmation dialog box appears.
Type the full path of the DESTINATION folder in the DESTINATION combo box.
 - OR -
Clik the BROWSE button. The SELECT FOLDER dialog box appears. Clik the DRIVE SELECT BUTTON for the desired drive,
and then clik the desired folder or subfolder. RITE CLIK the mouse. The SELECT FOLDER dialog box will disappear and the path
you selected will be in the DESTINATION combo box.
 - OR -
Clik the down arrow of the DESTINATION combo box. If any previous COPYs or MOVEs have been performed, the paths of them
will be in the dropdown list. Clik a path in the list to place it in the DESTINATION combo box
Clik the YES to copy a single file at a time. The box prompts you for each file.
Clik the YES TO ALL button to copy all the selected files.
Clik the NO button to skip a file.
Clik the CANCEL button to cancel the entire copy operation.

MOVING:
The steps for moving files are the same as the steps for copying files.
FILES THAT ARE MOVED ARE NO LONGER IN THE SELECTION SET. Their image in the PICTURE GRID is set to blank.

MVIEW CAN MOVE FILES ACROSS DRIVES.
If you have a bunch of image files on your hard drive that you don't use anymore but don't want to throw away, you can use MVIEW
to move them from your hard drive to a disk.

DELETING:
Select the files the same way as for copying or moving.
Clik the DELETE button or press the Delete key.
The FILE DELETE CONFIRMATION dialog box appears.
Clik the YES to delete a single file at a time. The box prompts you for each file.
Clik the YES TO ALL button to delete all the selected files.
Clik the NO button to skip a file.
Clik the CANCEL button to cancel the entire delete operation.

COMPARING FILES IN DIFFERENT FOLDERS
Start a second instance of MVIEW. Running more than one copy of a program in Windows(r) is called "instancing".
Start MVIEW. Select a group of files and display them.
CLIK THE SECT BUTTON. The SELECT SCREEN SECTION dialog box appears. Clik the LEFT HALF button. This instance of
MVIEW moves and resizes to the left half of the screen.
START A SECOND INSTANCE OF MVIEW. Select a group of files from a different folder and display them. Use the SELECT
SCREEN SECTION dialog box to place this instance of MVIEW in the screen RITE HALF.
Set the number of columns & rows of both instances of MVIEW to the same numbers. The images can now be compared to each other
almost side-by-side. Turning STRETCH on in both instances of MVIEW usually helps.

UP TO NINE INSTANCES OF MVIEW CAN BE "INSTANTIATED" AT ONCE.
