[1] What is TopCard.exm?

  The topcard (the opening screen of the System Manager) is
  displayed from a PCX format file, specified by Setup -> [MENU]
  -> [O](Options) -> [O](Owner) -> [F8].  To change it, you need
  to carefully go through a number of menus. TopCard.exm adds
  a file-open menu to the topcard and makes you select a PCX
  file in the same way as in other built-in applications.

[2] Hardware/software requirements

  TopCard.exm works on the System Manager of the 100/200LX.

[3] TopCard.exm and TopView.exm

  There are two programs included in this package: TopCard.exm
  and TopView.exm.

  TopCard.exm rewrites C:\_DAT\SETUP.ENV. The selected PCX
  file is registered and stays as the topcard permanently.

  TopView.exm does not rewrite setup.env, but replaces the
  current topcard only. Quitting from the System Manager
  cancels the topcard selected by TopView.exm. When you restart
  the System Manager, you will see the previous topcard. You
  may want to use this TopView.exm, instead of TopCard.exm, if
  what you need is a simple PCX viewer.

[4] Installation

  Add TopCard.exm to MoreEXM. You can use any start key.
  My recommendation is any unused key from [ALT]+[1] to
  [ALT]+[9]. You can change the key assignment by EXkey
  afterwards.

  The menu of the TopCard.exm looks better, if it is displayed
  as an overlapped window on the topcard. You should set the
  option of MoreEXM to keep the launched application from
  clearing the screen. Moreexm.ini should contain the
  following line, if you chose [ALT]+[7] as a start key.
          a:\bin\topcard.exm,7E00,1,TopCard

  If you are using JKIT (Japanese language kit), its LXJEX.SYS
  enables EXkey to recognize the current task. You can use
  this function to make the [MENU] key to work as a start key,
  by adding the following definition to exkey.ini.
          <JTASK0.EXE>
          {Menu}={Alt+7}
  where JTASK0.EXE is the task name of the topcard task.

  Please refer to the user's guides of MoreEXM and EXkey, if
  you are not certain of their usages.

[5] Usage

   Press [Alt]+[7] key (or [MENU] key if you defined it by
   EXkey), while a topcard is displayed. It starts TopCard.exm
   and shows a menu bar. Go through the menu by pressing
   [F](File) ->[O](Open).  A familiar file-open dialog box
   appears. Select a PCX file, then the selected file appears
   on the screen as a topcard,

[6] TOPCARD.ENV

  Running TopCard.exm automatically creates a file
  c:\_dat\topcard.env and store the directory of the selected
  PCX file. You can move this file to a:\_dat, if you want to
  have more space in C: drive.

[8] History of this software

  This software was originally developed as one of the 9 new
  programs bundled with the book "HP200LX Software Bible",
  co-authored by Hiroyuki Sekiya and Hirotaka Hamada, published
  by Softbank, Tokyo, in April 1996 (ISBN4-89052-911-X). As
  such, the programs should not be distributed on networks nor
  regarded as freeware. In short, you needed to buy the book
  to use them.

  Fortunately the book received an enthusiastic acceptance
  within the HP200LX user community in Japan and it reached an
  out-of-print status two years after its publication, in 1998.
  Now that the book is no more available easily, the author of
  these programs decided to release them as copyrighted
  freeware.
