This quite fatilistic look on life program will keep track of up to 30 'dates'
that you program in it's .ini file. Just like life - it doesent warn you of
when that date passes - thats what the appointment application on the HP is
for. Instead this program simply keeps on going - watching over how much
time has passed on that event. Because of this "Clock-O-Doom" can watch
both events in the past as well as the future.

Currently the program can handle events to about 700 b.c. to well into
the 50th century. This should satisfy most morbid fatilist as well as well
as close to the most optimistic user.

What type of dates can be watched? Quite Literly everything. I have made
the .ini file very versitile so whatever your hearts desire should fit.
I use it to watch how old people are and when is thier next birthdays, as
well as events to come and past. If you compute your 'average life span'
with some of those quizes - you could plug that number in there and have a
'countdown' of your life. (hence "Clock-O-Doom") Maybe you would like to
track when Elvis left this planet? Well here is the perfect opertunity!

INSTALLATION:
------------
1. unzip the archive and put these files on your HP somewhere.
   Doom.exe
   Doom.ICN
   Doom.INI
   DoomFont.FNT

You dont have to place the .doc file on the hp. :)

2. Edit the Doom.ini file and FOLLOW THE FORMAT PRECISELY! Place whatever
dates you wish in there. Please note that if you dont want to use all of
the dates simply type "-------" (7 dashes) in the Fkey label area and the
   program will skip those.

Now it is ready to run.

USING Clock-O-Doom.EXE:
-----------------------
There are 2 ways to use Clock-O-Doom - in the dos shell, or through the
Sysmanager. from dos you can do the following command to choose the new
Clock-O-Doom:

Doom A:\Clock-O-Doom.INI

Note: If you put the .ini file in the same directory - you dont need to do
the full pathname.

If you want to place Clock-O-Doom in the Applications Manager - I have
supplied a Doom.ICN for just that purpose.
  1. Go into Applications Manager and make a new entry. (hit F2)
  2. for the stats put:
Name: Clock&-O-Doom (This will make "-" your hot key)
     Path: a:\util\doom.exe doom.ini|65
(Change the paths to show your setup. the "|65" is used to
guarentee Doom gets at least 65k when running. If you put the
.ini file in a different directory -- you will have to place the
full pathname in there as well.)
Comments: (or [Fn]+[3/?] - upside-down questionmark to skip the
"press any key to continue" message)
Tab over to the icon and it should change to the new icon.

That should do it. :)

This program has been geared to run on a IBM PC CGA compatible machine - and
the Hp100LX Palmtop PC just happens to be that. (Although I did make the
program with the intention to use it on the HP. :) It runs well in the 1meg
version.

Once You have Clock-O-Doom it running:
--------------------------------------
You simply press the Fkey that you want to show time.
The Cursor keys work as well.

NOTE: All timers that were not dashed out ("-------") will show through.

The [Tab} key has been set up to switch between the Normal Target year of
the event, The current year, and the Next year. This may be usefull to track
birthdays that havent come yet this year. You would get a countdown for that
event. On the off chance that the event you wish has passed already for
that year, the "next year' feature was put in.

Summery of Keys:
----------------
          F1 - F10 Counters 1-10
    SHIFT F1 - F10 Counters 11-20
LEFT,RIGHT,UP,DOWN Move to the Counter of that Direction.
[TAB] Toggle between Normal target year, This year and
                    next year.
             [ESC] Exit Program.
[Space] Toggle to calculate 'leap year' aproximations.
(i.e. add .25 days per year. Default is "no" )

Please notice the wording "Seconds Since" and "Seconds Left". This will
switch when you are looking at a date in the past or the future respectivly.

Change/Create your own fonts!
-----------------------------
I tossed in a spare big font called TIMES.FNT that you
can use in replace of doombig.fnt. To use this other font, you must
rename the old font to something else so you dont loose it, and then
rename TIMES.FNT to DOOMBIG.FNT. that should do it.

Check in the bmp-doom directory for instructions on how to make your
own fonts.

Distribution/Limitation:
------------------------
You may dstribute this program only in the origional archive form if
transfered electronicly. If placed on a media (cdrom/disk/whatever) you
may uncompress the files as long as all files are left intact with the
archive. You may not charge money for this program other then the costs
of media. (i.e no profit is to be made by this program)

All comercial applications of this program must be cleared with the
programmer/owner Daniel Joseph Oak.

Any suggestions?

P.S.
----
IF you have any info on how to calculate leap years, I would love to see it.
:) My method is not what you might call bullet proof. :)
