                                Log Book

** IMPORTANT ** The FMS is shipped with a sample check list file called
CHKLIST.MAP. If you already have an older version of the Pocket FMS and
have created your own checklists then you should be careful not to copy
this sample checklist file over top of your own checklist file.

The pocket FMS user's manual is included in this package in the form of
a Microsoft Windows Help File called POKETFMS.HLP. Simply double click
on this file from the Windows File Manager to view the manual.

To install the Pocket FMS on your hard drive you should create the
directory C:\FMS and copy all of the FMS files into it.

HP users should copy all of the FMS files to the directory A:\FMS on
your PCMCIA card. Note that you should NOT copy the user manual to your
HP (POKETFMS.HLP) since you can only view it using Windows on your
desktop PC (it will end up just wasting over 100K of space on your HP).
Also, you should only copy the .EXE file that you will be using (FMS95.EXE
for HP95 users, FMS100.exe for HP100/200 users).

HP users will obtain a boost in response time if you copy certain key
FMS files to your HP's RAM drive on C:. You should copy the files
MAP.DB, GEO.DB, SUA.DB and ELE.DB to C:\FMS.

HP users that are short on space on the PCMCIA card can also move
the files NAME.DB and/or CITY.DB to the HP RAM drive (move these files
to C:\FMS). Before you do this you may have to reconfigure your HP's
use of system memory using the HP 'Setup' option. We only recommend
doing this if you absolutely can't fit all these files on your PCMCIA
card.

HP users should not run the FMS from HP's 'Filer' application. The
Filer takes over the communications port and thus it interferes with
the connection to your GPS. HP100/200 users should exit to the HP's
DOS prompt by selecting the '&' (Ampersand) key then press the
'Menu' key then select 'Application' then select 'Terminate All'.
HP95 users should press the 'Menu' key while in the 'Filer'
application then select 'System' to exit to DOS. Once you are in
DOS you should move to the A: drive by entering 'A:' then press
'Enter', then move to the FMS directory by entering 'CD \FMS' then
press 'Enter', then run the FMS program by entering 'FMS95' (or
FMS100) then press 'Enter'.
