Animated Adventure by PSYGNOSIS

~Starting Tips by Lu Richardson.

Tips to get you started
-----------------------

The game can be played, differently, with the female or the male
character. The following tips refer to the male character. See
further down for the female one, but we aware that the whole thing
makes more sense if you play the male character first. Please note
that spotting items is the main difficulty in this game. Sweep the
Examine cursor SLOWLY all over each screenful. I have no doubt I
have missed something important, otherwise I wouldn't have got
stuck. Which I am. However, I hope these starting tips will help
you on your way. Oh, yes. Don't discard any items - the program
does not always tell you which ones have no further use. It all
helps to confuse thoroughly and make the game last.

Jack:

IN THE SHIP

Watch the intro, choose Ladd, watch. In the cell, use the switch to
the right of the door three times till it breaks. When the droid
comes in, speak to him and ask him to mend it. This puts the droid
in the cell and you out. Get the food pellet and the funnel to the
left of the cells. Exit top left, go in the first door, get the
coathanger and look around. Out, left. Have a peek. Back to the
cells, exit bottom left. Move to the reactor, pick up the fire
extinguisher and use it on the thermostatic shield. Talk to the
droid. Exit right. Take the other door and go all the way to the
left. Take the cuddly toy and the card to the left. You can talk
to the computer, if you like. Make your way to the reactor and look
at the open panel. Get what's in it. Go to the room with the
Airlock and use the card on the control panel. Put the hyperdrive
in the airlock, watch.

THE FIRST PLANET

When all the talking is over, go to the reactor and get the empty
gas canister from the holder. Go to the airlock room and use the
lift to go down. Again, wait till the conversation is over. Get
the fuel can, use the food pellet, use the resulting wad on the fuel
can, use the funnel on the can. Examine the snowplow, use the panel
on it and get the screwdriver. Go right, go through the arch and
get the air pipe to the right of the door. Go through the first
archway, get the key hanging to the right of the door. Use the
screwdriver on the missile, then put the Use icon on the missile,
get the warhead. Go out and go through the next door, down the
lift, to the right. Put the warhead on the rockslide and use it.
Watch. Right again, and right through the new archway. Examine the
drilling rig. Go back to the snowplow, use the air tube in the fuel
pipe, then use the fuel can on it. Go to the drilling rig, use the
can on the refuelling tank, put the key in the keyhole and the
canister in the outlet. Back to the ship, replace the gas
canister. Find the Ysanne and speak to her.

THE SECOND PLANET

Go down the lift as before. Watch. Look at scooter. Pick up the
spanner at the foot of the stairs (hard to spot). Go right. Talk
to the colonel. Get the guyrope from the latrine. Go back to the
scooter. If you use the coathanger you get a wire - use that on the
scooter (if Ysanne is present you won't be able to, you have to
wait till she's gone). Use scooter. Use rope on grille, then on
the scooter. Use the spanner on the grille and then use the
scooter. Go in, get the gyroscope. Try to find Ysanne. You
won't. Go back to the doorway you've just busted open and go around
to the right. Go to the tank. Watch. Find the command box to the
left of the door (the top cylinder) and use it. Watch. Go right
and attempt to use the beacon. Watch. Back at the ship, use the
gyroscope in the navigation core. Join Ysanne in the Control room.

THE THIRD PLANET

Watch. When alone, try to leave through the lift and you won't be
able to. Speak to the computer and suggest the girl might be in
danger. The computer will let you out. Go down the lift and you'll
find yourself at the reception. Talk to the hostess. Talk to the
man with the bright shirt. Follow him through the door and the
hostess will let you go on. Go to the first door. Move to the last
table to the right and gamble. You lose the ship, since you have no
idea how to play. You wind up in the kitchen. Use the Examine icon
on the items on the center stand. Speak to the chef and do exactly
what he tells you. Use the hat first, then the ingredients in the
right order and finally, give the results to the chef. If you get
it right, you can go. You are told the boss wishes to see you. Go
out of the hotel and up to the office. Speak to the receptionist
and then go in. Speak to Tennent. Ruthie will come in half way
through. When you've done speaking to the guy, go out and speak to
Ruthie. She'll persuade Tennent to let you have the ship back - go
back in and talk to him and he'll tell you his conditions. You have
to give him 24 credits. Go back down to the gambling room. If you
attempt to play again, you'll be asked for your stake. Talk to the
gambler to the left of the table. Examine him and discover his
pocket. Use the Take icon on his pocket. You get ten credits (you
can go on doing this for ever). Play the game and, if you lose, you
can get more credits from the gambler's pocket. Keep talking to him
and eventually he'll tell you that you score by placing a card next
to another which beats it. Carry on and he'll tell you that hollow
shapes invariably beat solid ones. You could spend quite a lot of
time here actually finding out how to play, it's up to you.
However, when you win, use the stake again to play and carry on till
you have 40 credits. Take them to Tennent, who will give you back
the ship. Go back to it and talk to Ysanne, probably in the
Control room. Get ready for the next planet.

THE FOURTH PLANET

Come down the lift as usual and talk to everyone below. Go left,
left, try to get the boots - the dog comes to their defence. Give
him the cuddly toy and he will retire to his den under the tree.
Pick up the boots and you get the socks. Go left into the caves.
Just keep going in and out of the openings (once you've been through
one, the little map in the lower left hand corner of the screen
tells you so with a brown arrow, so you'll know what you haven't
covered) until you find the eggs. Get one and talk to the guy.
Exit. You'll find yourself back where you landed. Give the egg to
the colonist's leader and go to the ship. There is a brief
conversation before you go. Inside the ship, go to the Control room
and talk to Ysanne. Wait and talk to her again. Make for the lift.

THE FIFTH PLANET

After you've talked to Ysanne, go right, enter the complex and visit
each room (ignoring the locked door for now). Talk to the High
Priest. Go down and to the left so that the next screen shows. Go
left through the two store rooms and come outside. Note the
flower. You can't pick it yet. Attempt to visit the ship and
you'll find it guarded. Speak to the monks. Go back to the High
Priest and speak to him. No joy. Leave and wait till you find
Ysanne - speak to her. Now go back to the Chapel, where you should
seen the monk knocked out and Ysanne standing over him. Use the
offerings on the altar. Watch. Inside the cell, exit through the
window. Watch. Go through the first store room, note the monk, go
to the next room. By the door, on a barrel, you'll find some
yeast. Take it and go back to the monk you just left. Use the
yeast on the vat and watch. Follow the monk outside. He'll be
swimming around. Get the robe and use it. Get the flower. Go to
the locked door and just go in. Talk to Ysanne. Talk to her again
and you'll get a clue as to what to do next. Go to the Chapel. Use
the flower. Placing the petals in strategic positions on the
hexagon and leaving and then reentering the room caused some of the
petals to float up near the opening in the ceiling - however, I was
playing this as a trial run and when I reloaded a saved game and
when through this planet again, I could not get the damned petals to
float up. So here I am stuck, and here I will remain. See if you
can do better.

Ysanne:

IN THE SHIP AND THE FIRST PLANET

Wait till all the talk is over, then get the lunch box and the
medical kit. Use them both and get what's inside. Go to the right
and then up. Stand on the platform to go down. Go right and right
again, then up. Examine the computer (and all its parts) and then
try to use the console. It's faulty. Take the disk from the
secondary computer and put it in the drive of the main computer. Go
back to the ship and talk to the Boola. It gives you a cartridge.
Take it back to the other computer and use it on the console. Pick
up a PCB from the secondary computer and put it in the main one.
Use the console again and you'll find out you need to put an
identification card in the appropriate slot. Examine the other
rooms. By now, you should have found a pickaxe.

Go to the room with the elevator. If you look carefully, you'll see
a rope behind the elevator. Wait till Jack comes in and speak to
him. Get him to go down with the elevator. Use the knife on the
rope and then use it again on the cut rope. Guess what, you get a
length of rope (it took me ages to figure this one out). Use the
mouth icon on the elevator shaft to get Jack to come back with the
elevator. Use the elevator and go down. Go to the left. Use the
rope on the pickaxe or viceversa to get a grappling hook. Use that
on the rocky ledge to the top of the screen, then use the rope to
jump across. Go left and examine the corpse. You get an
identification card. Take it back to the computer and it will start
writing on the disk. Retrieve the disk and take it to the ship
computer. Speak to it twice. Use the console to the left and use
the various buttons to the left of the screen. Survey will show you
the planets roundabout. Data will give you details. Choose Broygus
and click on the Take Off knob. Then press the Land button. Go to
the platform and leave.

THE SECOND PLANET

Watch. Go right and talk to the Colonel. Say you want to join the
army. He will start lecturing you and will keep putting his monocle
on the easel. Watch for an opportunity and grab it. Go to the
flagpole and use it. You get the flag. Get the stick by the
latrine. Go right and you'll come to an oasis. Note the tree with
the fruit. Use the stick on the fruit and get it. Use the syringe
on the fruit. Go left, left and down. Put the flag in the oil drum
and use the monocle on it. Go to the right/up. The oil drum blows
and the guard goes around the building. Use the syringe on the cup
he drops. Wait till he comes back and drinks the coffee. Go to the
door of the tank. Once inside, click on everything to see what it
does. You'll find you can't use the cannons, but Jack pops up
outside the window and you give him his orders. Use the console,
get the triangle in the square using the arrow buttons, then press
the middle button. Use the door to leave. Go right and use the
beacon. Go back to the ship.

THE THIRD PLANET

Talk to Boola twice, then use the console. You have to enter the
coordinates number. This time, do the necessaries to go to Gelt.
Once inside, talk to the hostess. Say you are the wife of the last
visitor. Go in and up to the first door. If you try to gamble, you
are told you need the boss's say so. Go up to the next floor and
talk to the concierge. Be polite and ask what he does. Keep asking
until he tells you he organises the window cleaning. Ask who does
it. Go out and up. Talk to Ruthie and ask to see the boss, because
you need clearance for gambling. Go in and talk to him. Leave and
go to the gaming room. Talk to the guy by the first table and use
your femenine wiles to get some credits out of him. Use them to
gamble and grab the first ace you are dealt.

At this point I got stuck. I couldn't find a use for the ace, I
could not make use of the information on the window cleaning to get
the key to the balcony in Tennent's office. I'm sure you'll do
better. Good luck.
