IBM 5162  -  Motherboard Switch/Jumper Settings



Display Switch (SW1)

This switch is set according to the type of video card fitted (MDA, CGA, EGA).

Card/s Fitted Required SW1 Setting      Comment
MDA only Rear position If in the wrong position, "501-CRT Error" may be seen on screen at power-on.
CGA only Front position If in the wrong position, "401-CRT Error" may be seen on screen at power-on.
EGA only Either position  
MDA + CGA Rear: MDA is to be the primary of the two
Front: CGA is to be the primary of the two
 



Jumper Block J10

This three-pin jumper block enables/disables the 128 KB of motherboard RAM that occupies the motherboard address space of 512K to 640K.

The 128 KB of RAM is made up of the six RAM chips that are located next to the motherboard's power connector.

From photos of the motherboard that I have seen, jumper block J10 normally has no jumper on it (enabling the 128 KB).

J10 Setting 128 KB Comment
No jumper  Enabled  This appears to be the norm - no jumper
Jumper on pins 1 and 2  Enabled  The two pins closest to the rear of the computer
Jumper on pins 2 and 3  Disabled  The two pins closest to the front of the computer
