3. Installation

If the ELSA OS/2 driver version 2.01 installed, begin with 1)
        and ignore the following statements.

To guarantee a successfully installation, be sure to have the
VGA driver installed. If it isn't so, it can be easy done by
        the setvga command.

        a) OS/2 2.1x
Open a OS/2 window and type in the directory c:\os2:

           setvga bootdrive:

           and follow the instruction.

        b) OS/2 Warp
use the restore option at system boot time (Alt+F1) and
reset the primary display to VGA (Key V)

After that reboot the system and continue with 1)

       1) Go to OS/2 window screen.

       2) Type the following line:

           a) OS/2 System with REXX support

              a:install

           b) OS/2 System without REXX support

              a:install2 [installdrive:] [bootdrive:]

(the 'ELSA Video Configuration' program will not be
              installed)

The installation program creates a directory (Default :
bootdrive:\WINOS232) and copies all necessary files into this
           directory. Then it starts DSPINSTL.EXE.

You have to start with the installation from the diskette,
           like it is described above.

       3) The "Display Driver Install" dialog box will be displayed.
           Choose the "Primary Display" option.

       4) Under the next menu select:
             "ELSA WINNER 1000/2000 V 3.17"

       5) Under the next menu select:
             " 640x480x256#60Hz" or
             "1024x768x256#75Hz"
The selected resolution will be installed.

       6) The Source Directory menu will be displayed. Set the
source directory to the appropriate drive and proceed
with the Install option. (Select "Change", replace "a:"
with "." (point) for the current directory, select
           "Set" and then "Install".)

       7) The installation may pause and display prompts to
overwrite certain files. Please answer "yes" for each file.

Under certain circumstances you will get a message that the
video adapter isn't supported. Confirm this and continue with
           the installation.

       8) Select "OK" in the next displayed menu.

       9) You will be ask to install the 'ELSA Video Configuration
           Editor', answer with 'Y'es.

      10) You will be ask to insert the 'WINGUI Disk' (ELSA Windows
           Driver Disk), answer with 'Y'es.
The WINOS2 WINman will be installed.

      11) Shutdown the system and restart OS/2

      12) With the Utility 'ELSA Video Configuration' you can select the
           desired video mode.
After the next boot, this mode is active.
Before you can use the new testscreen button in the 'Resolution'
dialog, you have to select a monitor in the monitor dialog.

4. Notes

4.1 WIN-OS/2 Configuration :

To change the standard configuration, use the Windows program
WINman. The WINNERxx.Drv (in WINDOWS.DR@) are copied to the
WINOS/2 directory during the installation. You don't have to
copy and expand this driver from the GUI-disk.

4.2 OS/2 Warp Version 3
The Installation is enhanced to run under this OS2 Version.

4.3 De-Installation:

        1. Reset to VGA

         a) OS/2 2.1x

           - change into the OS2-directory
              example: C:\OS2

           - setvga bootdrive:
              example: SETVGA C:

         b) OS/2 Warp
           see under 3. b)

        2. delete the files

           - WINOS232.DLL (bootdrive:\os2\dll)
           - BVHSVGA.DLL (bootdrive:\os2\dll)

             example: DEL C:\OS2\DLL\WINOS232.DLL
                      DEL C:\OS2\DLL\BVHSVGA.DLL

This steps are necessary, because the DSPINSTL.EXE (before WARP II)
        doesn't work correct.

4.4 supported boards

        32Bpp mode :
          -all WINNER Boards
except the WINNER 1000ISA/EISA and the WINNER 100VL

        8/16Bpp mode :
          -all WINNER Boards

4.5 This Version is a 8/16 and 32bpp color Driver
        and all possible Screen Resolutions.

The video refresh rates can be modified with the DOS WINSETUP
under DOS or in a DOS-Fullscreen session.
(Not for WINNER 100VL and WINNER 1000TRIO !)
The driver will use the new mode after booting. The "ELSA Video
Configuration Editor" show all of the programmed (WINSETUP)
        modes for selection.

4.6 TIP for reseting a incorrect video mode :

To overwrite the selected video mode, insert the following line
        into the CONFIG.SYS :

           SET ELSA_RESET=H system boots with 1024x768x256 75Hz
           SET ELSA_RESET=L system boots with 640x480x256 60Hz

6. Caveats / Known Problems

6.1 WINOS2

With some monitors, you can't use a refresh rate different
from that of the WPS. In this case you will see a black screen
(or something else) in the WINOS/2 Session.

        WINNER 2000 ISA/EISA D-Release:
Sometimes, it is possible that the screen is black after
starting the WINOS2-Fullscreen-Session. If that happens, close
the session with Alt+F4 and press enter.

        WINNER WINOS2 and Seamless Driver:
Use only the WINNERxx.DRV OS/2-Driver Disk. These files are
        copied by the installation utility.

6.2 Lotus 1-2-3 f. OS/2 Vers. 2.0
Lotus 1-2-3 runs only in 8BPP modes.

6.3 Software and Color Cursor

For the following configuration no software cursor is available:

        2 MB Video RAM:
            1600 x 1280 x 8 BPP
        Work around:
            Use the resolution 1600 x 1200 x 8 BPP

        4 MB Video RAM:
            1600 x 1280 x 16 BPP
        Work around:
            Use the resolution 1600 x 1200 x 16 BPP

        8 MB Video RAM:
            1600 x 1280 x 32 BPP
        Work around:
            Use the resolution 1600 x 1200 x 32 BPP

6.5 DIVE or MMPM2 with WINNER 1000/2000 ISA/EISA/VL/PCI (S3 928 Chip)

        The system may hang.

Work around : Add to the config.sys the line

              SET VIDEO_APERTURE=Video Base Adr. (MB)

Video Base Adr. (in MB and as a hex value)
has to be an unused physical address in the system
and has to be above the system memory.

              Recommendation :

               - PCI-Bus System
                  SET VIDEO_APERTURE=A00   => 2560 MB

               - VL-Bus System
                  SET VIDEO_APERTURE=78    => 120 MB

               - EISA-Bus System
                  SET VIDEO_APERTURE=3C    => 60 MB

               - ISA-Bus System
                  SET VIDEO_APERTURE=E     => 14 MB
