The Dornier Do335B-2 "Ameisenbaer" (Anteater)

Although technically called the "Pfeil", the pilots
preferred "Anteater" because of the plane's unusual looking
nose.

The Dornier D0335B series arose out of increased emphasis on
"Zerstorer" planes for Reich defense. As such, the internal
weapons bay was dropped in favor of an additional fuel tank.
The B series had the 15mm MG151 replaced by the 20mm MG151
(through the nose) and the addition of Mk103 30mm cannon in
the wings.

This mod plane allows you fly a corrected Do335A or the
Do335B-2. Since two 551s were internally carried and two
were externally carried on the A, this version of the Do335
fixes the problem of all four bombs dropping at once.

This version gives you two 551s in the bay (droppable 1 at a
time) or the 1102, plus the option of having two MK103s in
the wings (for the B-2 variant), plus the option of
having either the other two 551s on the wing racks, OR (for
the people who like "what-ifs") you can choose the X-4 wire
guided air-to-air missile <GGGG>.

The X-4 missile had a range out to 2.17 miles, and
had 44 pounds of HE with a proximity fuse. The missile was
first test-fired on August 11, 1944 from a FW190. 1,000
missile airframes were produced, but the motor factory was
destroyed by bombing, so none made it to the Luftwaffe. If
they had been produced, it seems logical that they may have
been tried on the Do335. Obviously, mine are not wire-
guided, but if you aim at the target within range you'll hit
it! <G>. It's a reasonable approximation, anyway. So give
it a try and see what you think.

The wing bombs still drop as a pair, but at least you get
three drops instead of one.

TO USE THIS PLANE: First, make a backup copy of your
Do335.SPC file, such as "COPY DO335.SPC DO335.ORI" Then
copy the DO335B.EXP file over the DO335.SPC file, using the
DOS command "COPY DO335B.EXP DO335.SPC". Your Do335 will
now fly as the modified plane. To return to normal, swap
the .ORI file back into the .SPC file.

The X-4 missile willed be called a Jadgfaust in the weapons
menu, but fear not, it's there <Grin>.
