AUG13.TXT (From Biggles war diary)

Another in a series of historical engagements for Their Finest Hour. This
mission was created on the Amiga version of BoB but should work on the IBM
and Atari ST versions as well. These missions are based on actual events
and were meant to compliment the canned missions that come with the game. I
used the battle maps from the book 'The Battle of Britain' by Richard
Townsend Bickers as a source for these flights. I have tried to stay
as close as possible to the actual events as the game would allow.

FLIGHT BRIEFING

Historical Engagement:
The morning of August 13 was supposed to be the start of Adler Tag. But
because of very bad weather the attacks were postponed until the weather
cleared. However, several Luftwaffe units did not receive the
postponement orders in time, and took off anyway. One of these was a large
group of 74 Do17's that flew without fighter escort to their targets, the
Coastal Command airfield at Eastchurch and the navel base at Sheerness. They
were intercepted by three squadrons of Hurricanes and Spitfires from
North Weald, Hornchurch, and Croyden. Due to low visibility however, the
Do17's were able to hide in the clouds and only five were shot down.

Start Location:
In a Hurricane 10,000 above the channel.

Flight Plan:
Unlike the real event, the weather in BoB is always clear and sunny, so
you will have no problem in spotting the waves of bombers rolling in from
the northeast. You and another Hurricane must prevent the bombing of
the Eastchurch airfield by destroying or damaging as many Do17's as possible.
There are 12 bombers coming in waves of two or three so you must work to
conserve ammo. Remember, you don't have to destroy every plane, you just need
to cause enough damage so they drop there bombloads short of their targets and
turn for home. This mission is great for practicing your attacks on bombers,
as you will not have to worry about fighter escorts.

Home Airfield:
Sector airfield at North Weald

Hope you enjoy this mission.
