Intruder Mission - Venlo

WEATHER: Niteowl
INSERTS: None
RADAR: AI MkVIII (map usable)

Until June of 1943, the British
intruders (Mosquitos and even
aging Beaufighters) were almost
always the ones to walk away alive
from combat with their German
counterparts. Then, on 11 June,
1943, the Heinkel He219 Uhu (Owl)
night fighter made its operational
debut at the hands of I/NJG1 Gruppen-
kommandeur Major Werner Streib. Des-
pite a crash landing at the end of
the mission, the He219 was an out-
standing success - Streib had downed
five bombers. Ten days after its
operational debut, NJG1's He219s
were responsible for destroying 25
bombers and 6 of the previously im-
mune Mosquitos.

ORDERS:
You are on an intruder patrol over
Germany. Disrupt German night-fighter
activities around Venlo in prepara-
tion for a Main Force raid else-
where later this evening. I/NJG1
based at Venlo is reported to be
using the new He219, so watch out!
