"SCREWBALL" BEURLING

George Beurling was known as "Screwball"
to the members of his Spitfire No. 249
Squadron at Malta.  He was known for his
incredible eyesight, his sensitive touch
of the flight controls, and his superb
gunnery ability.  With 28 kills, he was
one of the top aces on Malta.  On 14
October 1942, while dogfighting Bf109s,
he was shot down and injured.  While
being evacuated to Gibralter, his
Liberator crashed, killing 16 of the 19
passengers.  Screwball survived.

MISSION

It is 14 October 1942.  Scramble with
your section of the No. 249 Squadron to
intercept inbound Ju88s escorted by
Bf109s.  Your mission is a failure if the
airfield loses more than 2 buildings.

NOTES

This is a day mission.
