DVINA RIVER BRIDGE

The mission of the 57th Panzer Corps in
early July was to cross the Dvina River
near the town of Ulla and continue on to
Gorodok, north of Vitebsk. The bridge
had been destroyed but German engineers
were rebuilding it. On the 7th of July
1941, it was nearing completion, when it
came under counterattack from strong
Russian infantry forces and sporadically
from Russian bombers, who threatened to
destroy it. German counterattacks,
including 280mm rocket fire, pushed them
back, although the Russian air attacks
continued all night long. Finally the
bridge opened on the morning of the 8th,
only five hours later than planned.

MISSION

Take your section of Pe-2s and destroy
the bridge over the Dvina. The mission
is a success only if at least one section
of the bridge is downed.

NOTES

This is a night mission.
