My CPU Collection

The purpose of this page is simply to catalogue the CPUs in my own personal collection and more importantly, keep placeholders for those that are missing. I'm not really a CPU collector ("I gotta have 'em all!"), but I do have a pretty ok stash of PC hardware to be able to build almost any PC from 1985 to 2000 without using too much "out of era" kit.

So anyway, here goes... there are just over 100 in my collection - all CPUs are tested and working unless otherwise stated, are sorted by socket, then by manufacturer, then by speed in MHz/GHz. Oh, and these are desktop PC CPUs, so no laptop/surface-mount CPUs in this list. All prices include P&P (packing and shipping).

Intel 80286-12 (1983)	1 x Intel-branded one came with Octek DCS-286 motherboard which I paid £48 for in 2014. 1 x Siemens-branded that came with the LM103S 80286 motherboard I bought for £37 in 2021, along with an 80287-10 coprocessor. Intel 80286-20	MISSING FROM COLLECTION Harris-branded. They were the only authorised manufacturer to push the 80286 architecture beyond 16 MHz. Originals are quite rare. Watch out for fake chips. Prices in Nov 2022 not incl. P&P: £8.46

Intel 80386DX-20	Came with my Chips & Technologies motherboard in 2013. Requires standard 386 PLCC 132-pin socket. This chip has the double sigma symbol, which means it has been tested and is bug-free.

You can't have enough of these in your collection - dirt cheap and were the fastest non-clock doubled/tripled Intel version with the math coprocessor. A solid CPU from 1990-1992. AMD K5-PR75-ABR (Oct 1996)	(x2). Uses AMD's 2nd revision of the K5 with SSA/5 core. 50 MHz FSB, 1.5x multiplier. Actual CPU clock runs at 50 MHz. This is one of the older, slower SSA/5 core K5s, but was manufactured on the newer 350nm process. First chip has date stamp wk23 1996, second has wk20 1996. Bought for £13.05 in 2018. Second one bought for £13.69 in 2020.

This is one of the later ones (designated 5k86) following a redesign to improve FPU performance and run cooler.This one performs better than a Cyrix 6x86-PR166+. AMD K5-PR166 ABQ ABX ABR (Jan 1997)	116.66 MHz clock, 66 MHz FSB, 1.75x multiplier setting. 16KB L1 cache. This is one of the later ones (designated 5k86) following a redesign to improve FPU performance and run cooler. ABR variant can manage up to 70 degrees temp (ABQ only 60 degrees, and ABX 65 degrees). AMD Am5x86-P75 (AMD X5-133ADW) X5-133ADY X5-133ADZ X5-133SDW X5-133SDY X5-133SDZ X5-133SFY X5-133SFZ (Oct 1996)	133 MHz core clock, 33 MHz FSB, 4x clock multiplier, 16KB L1 WB cache. 3rd last letter: 'A' = PGA package, 'S' = SQPF package. 2nd last letter: 'D'=3.45V, 'F'=3.3V. Last letter: 'W'=0-55C, 'Y'=0-75C, 'Z'=0-85C. A bit faster than a 486DX4-100 and similar to a Pentium 75, the Am5x86 has a 486 microarchitecture and runs on Socket 3 with 3.45V - use heatsink and fan. A 160 MHz version on a 40 MHz FSB was mentioned but never sold. Some have overclocked the 133 to run like this, which gives it similar performance to a P-90. Bought for £48 in 2014 as a bundle that included an M919 motherboard, several CPUs, MFM disk controller, video cards and CD-ROM drives. Typical prices mid-2020 not incl. AMD Am5x86-P83 (AMD X5-150ADW) X5-150ADY X5-133ADZ (Oct 1996)	150 MHz core clock, 50 MHz FSB, 3x clock multiplier, 16KB L1 WB cache. 3rd last letter: 'A' = PGA package. 2nd last letter: 'D'=3.45V. Last letter: 'W'=0-55C, 'Y'=0-75C, 'Z'=0-85C. Similar performance to a Pentium running about 83 MHz, the Am5x86 has a 486 microarchitecture and runs on Socket 3 with 3.45V MISSING FROM COLLECTION

Cyrix Cx486DRx2 16/32GP	MISSING FROM COLLECTION This is the 132-pin variant, designed to be an upgrade for special 386/486 hybrid motherboards. It is 386 pin-compatible but has a complete 486SX instruction set and 1KB of L1 cache (despite it being called DRx2, it upgrades a 386DX-16 to be like a 486SX-33).
Cyrix Cx486DLC-33GP / V33GP	This is the 132-pin variant, designed to be an upgrade for special 386/486 hybrid motherboards. It is 386 pin-compatible but has a complete 486SX instruction set and 1KB of L1 cache. Bought for £23.13 incl. P&P from USA on 28 Mar 2021. Typical prices mid-2020 not incl.
