Alarmed Again is a workaround for a problem in Magic Cap 1.0 that can cause datebook alarms and automatic collection rules to stop working. Alarmed Again puts a little alarm stamp next to the clock on the desk. This stamp will periodically repair the effects of the problem. A useful little package from the author of Scramble.

BatchUp 1.0 is a package manipulation utility. It lets you batch-copy packages from shelf-to-shelf in the Storeroom, as well as letting you batch-delete packages or move packages between memory cards. It's incredibly handy when you're doing those backups with Magic Exchange, 'cause you don't have to drag individually anymore!

BatchUp installs a book in the library to help you learn how to use it.

Card o' Stuff Pro, the new version of Card o' Stuff, gives you three handy tools: coupons that turn any stamp into an animation, a coupon that changes your default reply stationery, and a coupon that lets you reuse messages you've received. Version 2.1 lets you change the default reply stationery back to the original boring postcard.

La Costeña brings object-oriented burritos to the electronic marketplace. You can construct your burrito by dragging ingredients onto a tortilla, then fax your order directly to the shop. This package takes sides in the religious war about which burrito maker is the best in the Silicon Valley: La Costeña or its neighbor La Bamba? I agree with the authors that Costeña is the best, and recommend the black beans and the fire salsa.

La Costeña won't send burrito orders if you're not in either the 415 or the 408 area code. You can still make fantasy burritos and dream of fresh guacamole.

Eternity saves your personalization information, PersonaLink registration, name cards, note cards, and appointments. You can then pull your batteries and restore all the abovementioned stuff. Eternity "reclaims" a lot of memory, because it deletes everything else. If you had a cat running up and down your hallway, Eternity will delete it.

Use caution with Eternity. You could accidentally delete data you care about. Eternity saves only the items listed. It doesn't save anything else. It's a good idea to make a complete backup before you use it.

Favorite Places lets you assemble a collection of snapshots or icons that represent your favorite spots in Magic Cap. Tap a snapshot to take a shortcut to your favorite spot! The snapshots show up in a window you can pop up from the desk button, so you can get to all your favorite places with just two taps.

To display the window, option-touch the desk button (or just plain touch if you're at the desk scene). There's a button on the title bar of the window you can use to make a snapshot of the current place.

Internet Fixer is a workaround for a problem in Magic Cap 1.0. This problem can cause Internet address stamps to incorrectly display numbers in their address titles. For example, you might see stamps in your name cards labelled "Internet 1" or "Internet 3" instead of "Internet." When you unpack this package, it installs a small stamp above the desk, much the same way Alarmed Again does. Whenever you enter the desk scene, Internet Fixer will check for this problem and fix it if necessary.

Steve's Mail Tools installs a rule in your inbox. Turn the rule on to automagically clean up the formatting of any message you receive from the Internet. You can also leave the rule off and use the unwrap button in the Commands window to clean up a specific message.

MergeMeister is a fantastic tool for managing name cards. Often you'll get new versions of name cards for people you already have cards for. With MergeMeister, you won't need to compare those cards by hand any more. MergeMeister will automatically merge new name cards with the older versions in your card file.

Onno's Tools smooth out certain parts of life with Magic Cap. For instance, there's a tool to help you tidy up your file cabinet, and a tool to clean up the hallway and downtown. Onno's tools come with a help book that explains how to use them. Slick! Make sure you get version 1.4.

Note: Onno's Tools are not compatible with Magic Cap version 1.5.

Did you know that 16 April 1995 was Phoneday? Phoneday, an auspicious day in Western history, was celebrated throughout the islands, byways, and trunk switches of the United Kingdom. On that day, the international dialling access code for making calls from the U.K. to other nations changed from 010 to the European standard, which is 00. With cheers of 'ballyhoo', travellers and residents alike learned to skip a digit when calling their cousins in Canberra, friends in Frankfurt, and the zookeeper in Zanzibar.

This package makes your Magic Cap communicator celebrate Phoneday, too. This package, once installed, changes the international access code that your communicator dials when calling from the U.K. The newest version of Phoneday also helps your communicator call from the Netherlands!

Quoter lets you turn any text selection into Internet-style included text. You control the line length and the prefix character. Quoter is great if you correspond with lots of people on the Internet.

Quoter installs a new button in the control panels scene. Tap the button to go to the Quoter control scene, where you can set the prefix character and line length for quoted lines.

Have you ever accidentally hit option-erase just after you finished your masterwork of digital art on a telecard? If you have, you'll enjoy Safe Erase Button. If you tap option-erase in the notebook or while editing a telecard, Safe Erase Button puts up a confirmation dialog, asking you if you're sure you want to obliterate everything.

Scroll Tool gives you a grabber hand you can use to scroll long telecards up and down. It installs a tool into the tool palettes.

This package is a desk-drawer widget that helps you manage a spiffy to-do list. Think of it as a specialized datebook.

Textualizer makes text coupons from objects you touch. It goes into the tool holder with the move, copy, and stretch tools. Textualizer is another bit of magicware from the man who brought the world Scramble!

Ceej says, yow! This package will decode uuencoded Internet messages and install the results as a package in the storeroom. This means that people can mail you packages over the Internet!

Version 0.92 fixes a problem with certain bizarre telecards that aren't formatted like normal stationary. It also adds support for decoding jpeg images, mac 'snd ' resource data, mulaw and signed 8 and 16 bit sounds. Images and sounds create coupons that hop to the tote bag. The jpeg images do not look very nice and therefore aren't very useful. This version also provides support for Pierre's WebMail package. UUDecode will install its button in the WebMail scene if the WebMail package is installed.

Version 0.96 adds these features:

• Decodes uuencoded Presto!Mail message, so people on the Internet can send uuencoded stamps and sounds to Persona Link subscribers. (Only Presto!Mail users can generate messages with stamps and sounds.)
• Decodes MIDI files. Only MIDI files set up for the Magic Cap midi environment will play back properly.
• Detects JPEG pictures with comments.
• UUencodes packages to send over the internet. Look for a uuencode button in the package scene.
• Supports an external interface for developers of other packages. Contact Greg Satz for details.

Version 0.98 works with Magic Cap 1.5 communicators.

WebMail gives your Magic Cap communicator text-only, non-browsing access to the World Wide Web, FTP, and Gopher. If you know the URL to an Internet resource, you can get it on your communicator. WebMail works over standard Internet e-mail, so you only need an AT&T PersonaLink or America Online account. WebMail is great for keeping up to date on news, sports, weather, and stock quotes, or any other regularly-updated information on the Web. It's not a Web browser, but it's the next best thing.
