PC110 TFT化 26 液晶モジュール調達 ［to English Note］
私が、「TFT液晶モジュール」に興味を持った切っ掛けは、「ポータブル・ナビゲージョン機」の不動ジャンクを手に入れた時からだ。（図１）
初めはそれを修理することに興味を持ち、更に、実際にハイキングなどに携帯してみて、なかなか便利であることを発見！
次いで、それの電源をONしたままで、6時間以上（つまり、1日中）保持出来るようにバッテリの強化を行っていた。（図２<クリック>）
そうした工作や「液晶モジュール」を別のモノと入れ替えたりしている内に、この「液晶モジュール」を「PC110」の表示「劣化したDSTN液晶」と、置き替えられないかと考え始めた。（つまり、「PC110」表示のTFT化だ）
そう考えていた時に、運良く内蔵のビデオ・チップ「Chips 65535」の技術資料が手に入った。
その資料の中で、「DSTN液晶」だけでなく、「TFT液晶」も駆動出来るという記述があり、それが大きな転機になった！
“置き換え”に挑戦してみたら、不満足な点は幾つかあるが、使える程度のものに仕上がっている♪
現在、私は、ナビ機から外して取った「TFT液晶モジュール」だけを使っているが、ある英国紳士から頂いた情報によると、「eBay」などから「TFTモジュール単体」だけを購入することが出来るらしい。
コストも妥当だと思うので、今後の参考にしたい。

＋＋＋ 液晶モジュール単体 ＋＋＋
英国のLycettさんが、古い「PC110」を入手され、「TFT液晶」への“置き換え”に興味と意欲を持たれて、モジュール裏に書かれた品番を手掛かりに「eBay」などを探されたそうだ。
見事に！新品の「TFT液晶モジュール」を見付けられた。勿論、40ピンの適合品！
6インチ：「AliExpress」（図３）や、5インチ：「eBay」（図４<クリック>）などの単品販売だ。（情報の提供、感謝！）
コスト的には、ジャンクのナビ機並みだが、余分なモノが付いていない上に、表面（タッチパネル面）は綺麗のはず。
（タッチ・パネルの傷は、皆無だろう）
発注後に、我慢すれば／長く待てば、送料は、節約することも出来るようだ。
因みに、最近では「ヤフオク！」では、ジャンクのナビ機も、価格が随分高くなって来ているし、適当なものが少ないので、「eBay」などで単品を買った方がメリットは大きそう。
＋＋＋ 6型と5型の比較 ＋＋＋
実際に「PC110」に搭載してみると、それぞれ得失が分かる。（図５、図６<クリック>）
先ず、6型は、文字が大きくて、見易い。
しかし、チラツキが目立つようになる。（基本クロック周波数の問題であり、改善は多分困難）
−元々の「DSTN液晶パネル」では、上・下に2分割してあり、上・下を同時に駆動する方法で、走査速度を2倍にしてチラツキを抑えていたのだが、このTFT液晶は走査速度がその半分（つまり1倍）なので、チラツキが避けられなくなる−
また、「PC110」の前枠を削って広げなければならない。（左上のIBMロゴが欠けてしまう）
（もし、画面をプログラムで、もっと右寄りに移動出来れば、枠を削らずに済むのだが、難しい！）
5型は、前枠の窓内に十分収まる。（それより、やや小さい？！）
チラツキは、6型ほどでもない。
5型、6型共に、どちらも明るさ調節は出来ないが、現状では程良い明るさである。
6型の電流消費も、定量的に調べてはいないが、それ程本体の負担にはなっていないらしい。
実は、ナビ機用の「TFT液晶モジュール」には、「タッチ・パネル」が付いているので、これを上手く利用出来れば便利になるだろうと思うが、これは将来の課題だ。

PC110 TFT-ized #26 Procurement of LCD modules [7/14]
My interest in the "TFT LCD module" came from the time when I got the old "portable navigation device" fixed junk. (Fig_1)
At first I was interested in repairing it, and actually I tried carrying it to hiking etc and found it to be quite convenient!
Then, the battery was reinforced so that it could be maintained for 6 hours or more (that is, all day) while its power was on. (Fig_2 <click> )
While doing such work, I began to wonder if the degraded "DSTN LCD" of "PC110" could be replaced by the "TFT LCD".
(That is the "TFT-ized PC110")
Luckily, when I was thinking so, I got the technical data for the video chip "Chips 65535".
Among them, there are much descriptions that not only "DSTN liquid crystal" but also "TFT liquid crystal" can be driven, which has become a major turning point for my thinking !
When I tried the "replacement", there were some dissatisfaction points, but I finished it to something enough to be usable ♪
Currently, I used only the "TFT LCD module" removed from the navigation devices, but according to the information given by a gentleman in the UK, purchasing the "TFT module alone" from "eBay" etc. It seems to be possible.
I think the cost is reasonable, so I would like to refer to it in the future.

＋＋＋ Liquid crystal module alone ＋＋＋
Mr. Lycett in the UK got an old "PC110", and he had interests to look at the deteriorated "DSTN LCD" and replace it with a "TFT LCD".
Then, he searched with printed parts-number on rear of a LCD module around whether he could get a "TFT LCD" suitable for replacement, and found it on "eBay".
And wonderfully! He found some new "TFT LCD module"s.
Of course, they are 40-pin compatible items !

In terms of cost, junk navigation devices are as good as it is, but with no extras, the surface (touch panel surface) should be clean.
(There will be no scratches on the touch panel)
After ordering, if I endure / wait a long, shipping cost can also be saved.
By the way, recently, in " Yahoo! ouction ", junk navigation devices are also getting quite expensive, and there are few suitable ones.
If I shall buy a single item with eBay etc., the benefits will be greater.
＋＋＋ Comparison of 6-inch and 5-inch ＋＋＋
In fact, when I installed it on the "PC110", I found the advantages and disadvantages.（Fig_5、Fig_6<click>）
First of all, 6-inch is large in size and easy to see.
However, flickers stand out.
(This is a problem with the base clock frequency and may be difficult to improve)
-The original "DSTN liquid crystal panel" is divided into two, upper and lower.
Since the 240 lines are simultaneously driven in parallel in about 1/60 seconds, flicker is suppressed.
However, this TFT liquid crystal has to scan 480 lines in 1/60 seconds, so flickering becomes inevitable-
In addition, the front frame of "PC110" must be cut and expanded.
(The top left IBM logo is missing)
If I could move the image view further to the right of the screen with my programing, I would not have to cut the frame. (But, it may be difficult !)
5-inch fits well in the window of the front frame. (Slightly smaller than that ?!)
The flicker is less than 6-inch.
Both the 5- and 6-inch can not adjust the brightness, but at present the brightness is reasonable.
I have not examined quantitatively of the power consumption of the 6-inch module, but it seems not to be so much heavy load for "PC110".
In fact, the "TFT LCD module" for navigation devices has a "touch panel".
So I think it would be useful if it could be used successfully, but this could be a future issue.
