AST RESEARCH, INC. INFORMATIONAL BULLETIN # 0030 01/07/97 TITLE: Installing Memory into an Ascentia P SUMMARY When adding memory to an Ascentia P system, the memory module must be properly installed. Improper installation may result in intermittent memory failures or the memory may not be recognized by the unit. This issue affects all Ascentia P mobile systems. NOTES The Main Logic Board (MLB) connector has six holes for locking, three on each side. The memory module connector has six locking hooks, three on each side. The intermittent memory failure occurs when the memory appears to be seated, but is not locked correctly. If the connector is not locked correctly, this allows for the movement of the memory module and intermittent memory failures. Use the following procedure when installing memory into an Ascentia P: 1. Position the unit with the memory compartments away from you. Refer to figure 1. 2. Place the memory module on the MLB connector in BANK 0 (the right side connector). 3. Insert the right side first by pressing down on the right side enough to make the left side rise approximately 1/4 inch. 4. Insert the left side while holding down the right side by pressing firmly on the left side of the module until you hear a click. Figure 1.
