Last Revised AST RESEARCH, INC. INFORMATIONAL BULLETIN # 0041 06/03/97 TITLE: Ascentia A and the Mini-Dock Station SUMMARY This bulletin describes the procedure to follow when docking the Ascentia A system to the Mini-Dock station for the first time, or after restoring from CD-ROM. This issue applies to all Ascentia A systems using the Mini-Dock. NOTES CAUTION: The Mini-Dock does not support hot or warm docking. Failure to properly shut down the system before docking or undocking may result in data corruption or hardware failure. Please follow this procedure when docking the Ascentia A system and the Mini-Dock station for the first time, or after restoring from CD-ROM: 1. With the computer powered OFF, connect the computer to the Mini-Dock and turn the computer ON. For instructions on connecting and turning the computer ON, see the user's manual included with your docking device. After the computer starts, a series of screens appear as the computer builds a driver information database and detects hardware. This will take a few minutes. When the computer has finished detecting hardware, a dialog box appears telling you that the computer has built a Dock 1 configuration. Click the button. 2. Open Control Panel and double-click on the icon. The PCMCIA Wizard dialog box opens. 3. Click the button. On the following screen, click the button again, and finally click the button. 4. When prompted to "Turn your Computer OFF", click the button. Your computer shuts down. Wait a few seconds and then press the computer power button to restart the computer. You can now use your docking device. NOTE: When undocking, use the Shut Down option BEFORE undocking from the Mini-Dock. Do not use the Eject PC option because it will not work. This is a manual dock. This issue applies to all Ascentia A systems using the Mini-Dock.
