Last Revised AST RESEARCH, INC. INFORMATIONAL BULLETIN # 0048 08/05/97 TITLE: Windows 95 Joystick Calibration Issue SUMMARY The four-way view "tophat" switch on Logitech's Wingman Extreme joystick may not appear to perform correctly during calibration in the Control Panel under Windows 95, although the switch operates properly in game play. This issue affects all Advantage! 7000 series systems. NOTES The four-way view "tophat" switch on Logitech's Wingman Extreme joystick may not appear to perform correctly during calibration in the Control Panel under Windows 95, although the switch operates properly in game play. This normally happens on faster systems, such as a Pentium, when the joystick is plugged into a sound card's game port or the game port that came with the computer system. On these machines, the joystick routine in the calibration software may not read the joystick signal properly, resulting in a timing problem. This appears to be more of a cosmetic issue since it does not affect the proper operation of the joystick in game play. To obtain full functionality and proper range during the Windows 95 calibration process, some joystick manufacturers recommend using a dedicated, dual port, speed adjustable game card.
