Last Revised AST RESEARCH, INC. INFORMATIONAL BULLETIN # 0049 08/26/97 TITLE: Ascentia A+, Floppy Drive Access SUMMARY Under certain circumstances (for example, allowing only an Administrator to access the system) it may be necessary or desirable to prevent access to the floppy drive on the Ascentia A+. This issue affects all Ascentia A+ systems including the following: 503375 and 503377. NOTES The user may disable the floppy drive by following the steps below: 1. Press the [F2] key at boot to enter System Setup. 2. On the MAIN screen, make the following changes: Diskette A: "Not Installed" Boot Options|Floppy Check "Disabled" 3. On the ADVANCED screen, change the following: Integrated Peripherals|Diskette Controller to "Disabled" 4. On the BOOT screen, select boot device as HD or CD-ROM. 5. Save the changes and reboot the system. NOTE: This procedure will allow the system to boot without an error, while preventing access to the floppy drive under DOS and Windows. This may be needed to allow Administrator access ONLY to the computer. However, due to the limited security available on this system, unauthorized users cannot be completely prevented from making changes to System Setup that might restore access to devices. Take the necessary precautions to protect passwords needed to enter System Setup.
