=============================================================================== AST RESEARCH, INC. SOFTWARE BULLETIN # 0131C 11-10-94 =============================================================================== AST MANHATTAN SMP ADVANCED SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTICS (ASD) Production Release: 1.12 Available: June, 1994 Part Number: 910595-035 3 1/2 media 3.5" DSHD diskette 1 of 1 Revision: A This is an update to the AST Manhattan SMP Advanced Systems Diagnostics (ASD). File SMP3.EXE can be found on AST's BBS, in the Systems file area. AST's BBS can be reached by dialing the following telephone number: (817) 230-6850. AST's BBS supports modem speeds up to 28.8k bps. This release contains the following problem resolutions and enhancements: PROBLEMS RESOLVED: - Fixed SCSI CDROM test in which Sony CDU 541 CD-ROM drive failed to come up ready after SCSI device AUTOSENSE is completed. ERRATA: ASD Operation with a Mouse. - This version of ASD will not have a built-in mouse driver. In order to use the mouse to operate ASD, a mouse driver must be loaded first. Parallel Port Internal Loopback test. - Some low cost dot matrix printers may cause the Internal Loopback test to fail. If an unexpected error occurs with this test, and the printer that is connected is otherwise functioning correctly, disconnect the printer and retry the test. Specialix Boards. - This version of ASD does NOT detect nor test Specialix boards. 1-Channel Mylex DAC960 SCSI controller Board. - Tape run-away problem may occur if using the 525 MB tape cartridge on WangTek 51000ES tape drive. Use either the 1 GB tape cartridge or the 150MB cartridge. The tape drive manufacturer, WangTek, is currently addressing this issue. Production Release: 1.11 Available: April 1994 Part Number: 910595-034 3 1/2 media 3.5" DSHD diskette 1 of 1 This release contains the following problem resolutions and enhancements: PROBLEMS RESOLVED: - Fixed the problem with help access, where the user could not access the help screen after canceling the warning message box. - Fixed intermittent "system hung" during EDC test when there were five Pentium CPU boards running. - Modified IDE hard drive's seek test to test drives larger than 528 MB. Seek test now test all cylinders. - Moved Auxiliary interface test of keyboard controller to mouse test. - Modified the mouse AUTOSENSING result in the View configuration to display whether PS/2 mouse is attached or mouse reset failed the reset, etc. ENHANCEMENTS: - Enhanced memory test to support 256 MB memory board. - Added support for Mylex 3-channels SCSI controller and Mylex 1-channel SCSI controller. ERRATA: - This version of ASD will not have a built-in mouse driver. In order to use the mouse to operate ASD, a mouse driver must be loaded first. - Some low cost dot matrix printers may cause the Internal Loopback test to fail. In the event that you experience an unexpected error with this test, and the printer that is connected is known to be otherwise functioning correctly, disconnect the printer and retry the test. - This version of ASD does NOT detect nor test Specialix boards. - Tape run-away problem may or will occur if using the 525 MB tape cartridge on WangTek 51000ES tape drive. User is advised to use either the 1 GB tape cartridge or the 150MB cartridge. This problem is being resolved with the tape drive manufacturer, WangTek. - Added SCSI CD-ROM drives test. This test does not work in this release. Future software releases will address this issue. CAUTIONS: - This program can only run on AST Manhattan SMP servers. If you attempt to run this program on a desktop or portable system, an error will be displayed indicating you are running the incorrect program. - To test portable systems, please use Advanced Diagnostics disk, part number: 910883 31. - To test desktops, Premmia and Premium SE servers, please use Advanced Diagnostics disk, part number: 910450-010/310. Release: 1.10 Available March 1993 Part Number: 910595-033 3.5" Diskette 1 of 1 Revision: A PROBLEMS RESOLVED: - VGA tests are disabled when running remote diagnostics with Carbon Copy. - Fixed intermittent failures when running the external IRQ serial port test. - SCSI sub-system updated to improve reliability. - Fixed error handler so that dates of errors are dated correctly when running the diagnostic for prolonged periods of time. - Fixed problem with printing the error history. - Fixed DMA 8-bit test. - Fixed error message so that correct message is displayed when exchanging the floppy diskette. ENHANCEMENTS: - New tests for AST's EISA Ethernet board. - New tests for AST's EISA Token Ring board. - New tests for the MPX Pentium board. - New tests for the Empire (DAC960) 3 channel board. ERRATA: - An anomaly exists with the internal loopback test when it is executed with an external printer attached. Some inexpensive dot matrix printers may cause this test to fail. In the event this symptom is encountered, and the printer that is connected is known to be otherwise functioning correctly, disconnect the printer and retry the test. - At least one CPU must be selected in order for ASD to test the system with all available CPU boards. If the CPU test module is deselected or the CPU chip component from the selection menu, only the active CPU will participate in the system test. - This version of ASD does not detect or test RIO Specialix boards. - This version of AST does not detect or test SCSI tape drives which are attached to a DPT controller. This version detects and tests SCSI tape drives on the Empire controller only.
