                         MANHATTAN SMP SCO SINGLE CPU FIX


This is an informational bulletin only.

The current release of this software is located in the Manhattan SMP section
of AST's BBS and is titled "SMP22.EXE".  AST's BBS can be reached by dialing

SYMPTOM:        AST's Manhattan SMP computer doesn't boot with a single
                processor when SCO's MPX 3.0 is installed.

BACKGROUND:     SCO's MPX 3.0 requires two or more processors installed in
                AST's Manhattan SMP computer in order to boot.  If only one
                processor is installed, or if two processors are installed and
                one of the two is broken, the computer will not be able to boot
                SCO UNIX or ODT.

RESOLUTION:     Two updated drivers are required to remedy the symptom.  These
                drivers must be installed after MPX has been installed.  To
                install the drivers, replace the older versions of Driver.o
                with the updated versions and relink/rebuild the UNIX kernel.

NOTES:          1. AST recommends backing up your data before updating the
                   drivers.
                2. AST recommends installing the drivers and
                   relinking/rebuilding the kernel in single user mode
                   (run level 1).
                3. The following two updated drivers are provided in tar
                   format with this package:

     rw-r-----13165/50   13323 Apr 29 02:07 1994 etc/conf/pack.d/astmf/Driver.o
     rw-r-----13165/50   33044 Apr 29 02:07 1994 etc/conf/pack.d/mpast/Driver.o

                4. The symptom can only be experienced on AST's Manhattan SMP
                   computer system.
