AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN #0822 04-07-93 PREMMIA SYSTEMS WITH ZIF CONNECTORS PROBLEM: After updating CPUs, some Premmia systems with ZIF connectors manufactured by AMP would no longer boot. CAUSE: When the bail on the AMP ZIF connector (part number 916461-1) is not opened completely, damage to various pins on the CPU may result. SYSTEMS AFFECTED: AST Premmia. SOLUTION: Upon AMP's evaluation of the problem, it was concluded that when the bail is opened to a 90 degree angle (or greater), the CPU can be safely inserted or removed. AST is currently designing a caution label that will be placed near the ZIF socket advising customers that the bail arm must be in its full open position, before removing or installing a CPU.
