AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN #0830 05-20-93 MANHATTAN SMP AND AST RAID CONTROLLERS PROBLEM: When installing the AST Empire Disk Array controllers (part number 202414-002 and 230355-002), the side door of the system may not close properly. CAUSE: The side door of the Manhattan SMP has a metal bracket that holds the boards in place during shipment. The height of the Empire disk array controller with cables installed may be too tall to allow the side door to close properly. SOLUTION: When the AST Empire disk array controllers are used, the metal PCB retainer must be removed. This can be accomplished by the removal of one screw located on the upper side of the retainer. Slide the retainer upward about half an inch, and pull the bottom outwards, completely removing it by sliding it down. NOTE: The metal PCB retainer bracket will be removed on future product and will be replaced by a foam retainer.
