AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN #0834 6-11-93 SMARTDRV AND DOS 6.0'S MEMMAKER PROBLEM: When installing MEMMAKER, the error messages "An Invalid State Condition has Ocurred, Press Enter to Undo Changes or "the file MEMMAKER.STS cannot be found, Press a Key to Continue", display on the screen. AFFECTED SYSTEMS: ALL Computer Systems Using MS-DOS 6.0 CAUSE: SMARTDRV defaults to a "write-back" cache. When MEMMAKER reboots the computer during its install process, the information read to cache may not have been written to disk, therefore the error messages are displayed. SOLUTION: Use the "write-through" cache option with SMARTDRV. In the AUTOEXEC.BAT file use the following syntax when configuring SMARTDRV: C:\DOS\SMARTDRV.EXE [x] Where x is the letter of the hard drive to cache. C:\DOS\SMARTDRV.EXE C This would perform a "write-through" cache on C drive.
