             POWER PREMIUM AND APPIAN'S RENDITION II/XE ADAPTER


PROBLEM:       Appian's Rendition II/XE adapter is not recognized when
               installed in AST's Power Premium.  This can be verified by
               running Appian's diagnostics.

AFFECTED
SYSTEMS:       All AST Power Premium Systems.

CAUSE:         The Rendition II/XE adapter requires an I/O address of 2BEH,
               creating a conflict with the C&T 82C711 chip which uses I/O
               addresses 2BD-2BFH.

SOLUTION:      The system board (part number 202441-001) must be revision
               level x26 or higher to avoid this conflict.  C&T's 82C721 chip
               is used on these later revision levels and does not conflict
               with the Rendition II/XE adapter's I/O address.
