AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN #0850 08-04-93 SOUNBLASTER PRO II FAILURE WITH 386/25 AND /33 PROCESSOR CARDS PROBLEM: Distortion of ".WAV"-type files occur in Windows 3.1 when played through a Creative Labs Sounblaster Pro II card. The problem only occurs in a system where the processor is a 386/25 or 386/33. CAUSE: The Sounblaster card stops issuing DMA requests and times out during the playback of a .WAV file due to the excessive amount of time that the processor card takes to process the DMA request. AFFECTED SYSTEMS: All AST systems with a 386/25 or a 386/33 processor card with AST part number 202403-00X. SOLUTION: The 386 processor card must be replaced with a processor that is not of the same type (part number).
