            SE 4/66 AND ARCSERVE 4.0 NOVELL TAPE BACKUP SOFTWARE


PROBLEM:       When running ARCSERVE 4.0 on an SE configured with a DPT EISA
               controller the following error messages may appear; "0:0:0 DPT
               Controller 0 Disk 0 Command timeout: Resetting Controller."
               Tape Drive: Daemon Write Error H/W Error."

CAUSE:         Command line parameters in the AUTOEXEC.NCF file

AFFECTED
SYSTEMS:       EISA systems using a FAST SCSI EISA HBA.

SOLUTION:      In the AUTOEXEC.NCF file use the following command
               line.

               TAPEDRV SHOTS=1

               This reduces the number of the upper limit of the I/O buffers
               used by the software.
