             AST POWEREXEC RUNNING CENTRAL POINT BACKUP SOFTWARE


PROBLEM:       User attempts to configure the Central Point Backup, from
               PCTOOLS for Windows, and receives the following error message:

               "Error: General Hardware Failure 26."

CAUSE:         BIOS revisions prior to release 2.22 utilized Advanced Power
               Management(APM) with the floppy drives.

SYSTEMS
AFFECTED:      AST PowerExec notebook family

SOLUTION:      Flash the system BIOS to release BIOS version 2.22. The user
               may download the file PWREBIOS.EXE from the AST BBS.

Note:  To enhance the compatibility of the floppy drives, AST has removed the
       APM feature
