= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 0900A 8-9-94 = PREMMIA LX SYSTEM HANGS DURING INSTALLATION OF OS/2 2.1 PROBLEM: When trying to install OS/2 2.1 on a Premmia LX with a Future Domain PCI SCSI HBA the system hangs. CAUSE: The existing FD16-700.ADD file is no longer valid. SYSTEMS AFFECTED: AST REVISION PART NUMBER DESCRIPTION LEVEL 501288-XXX PREMMIA LX PRENTIUM/60 All SOLUTION: Replace the existing FD16-700.ADD file with an updated version. This is done as follows: CD-ROM INSTALLATION 1. Replace the FD16-700.ADD file, dated 4/29/93, on the IBM OS/2 2.1 Setup Diskette #1 with the FD16-700.ADD file, dated 1/10/94 or later. FD16-700.ADD along with README.TXT are contained in PCI_OS2.EXE which can be downloaded from the Future Domain BBS (714-253-0432). 2. Run the OS/2 2.1 setup from the floppy diskettes. This will copy the FD16-700.ADD file on the OS/2 2.1 CD-ROM to the hard drive using a character-based interface. 3 Prior to reloading OS/2 2.1, the FD16-700.ADD file which was loaded on the disk must be replaced with the new FD16-700.ADD file. 4. Reload OS/2 2.1 using the graphical interface. Following this configuration, the FD16-700.ADD file on the hard disk must be replaced with the new FD16-700.ADD file (copied from the BBS in step 1). This step is required because the old FD16-700.ADD file is recopied onto the hard disk from the CD-ROM during the graphical configuration stage. DISKETTE INSTALLATION 1. Replace the FD16-700.ADD file, dated 4/29/93, on the IBM OS/2 2.1 Setup Diskette #1 with the FD16-700.ADD file, dated 1/10/94 or later. This file can be downloaded from the Future Domain BBS (714-253-0432). 2. Run the normal OS/2 2.1 setup from the floppy diskettes.
