                      SMC ARCNET BOARD FAILS ON PREMMIA


PROBLEM:       The Premmia system, with SMC ARCnet, locks up when loading
               Novell 3.11 (ipx.com).  If on-board VGA is disabled, and add-
               on VGA is used, the problem disappears.

CAUSE:         The problem occurs because the default I/O address setting of
               2E0h for the SMC ARCnet board conflicts with the ATI video
               controller.

SYSTEMS
AFFECTED:      Premmia.

SOLUTION:      The problem can be resolved by changing the base I/O address
               of the SMC ARCnet controller to 300h.
