AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN #0908 3-22-94 AST POWEREXEC SYSTEM SETUP CHANGE PROBLEM: The PowerExec Power Station does not recognize a Colorado Memory Systems 250 MB Jumbo Tape Drive. The error message: "Error 87 No Tape Drive Detected" is displayed while trying to do a Tape Status, Format, and Directory of Tape. The version of Colorado tape software is v. 3.03 for DOS. CAUSE: An incompatibility between the I/O address of the Powerstation and the Colorado Tape Drive. SYSTEMS AFFECTED: Power Station PWRE. SOLUTION: Colorado Memory Systems has provided instructions on modifying their code to enable the selection of a secondary I/O address. This involves using DEBUG. The following are the steps to allow the Colorado JUMBO 250MB tape drive to work with the AST PowerStation/PowerExec: AST PowerExec System Setup Change 1) Go to System Setup and press +. 2) Select System Configuration and press . 3) Select PowerStation Options: Floppy Drive B. 4) Select 1.2 MB 5.25" and press . 5) Select Exit To Main Menu and press . 6) Select Exit System Setup and press . 7) Select Exit and Save Changes. Press . Colorado Software Change This change applies to Colorado tape backup software for DOS, version 3.03. 1) Go to the subdirectory that contains the tape software (TAPE). 2) Type: DEBUG TAPE.CFG and press . 3) Type: and press . This changes the address from F0 to 70. 4) Type: W and press . This writes the change to the file. 5) Type: Q and press . This quits debug. 6) Reboot system.
