AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 0940 6-24-94 POWEREXEC DRIVE BAY ADAPTER FAILING IN A PREMMIA LX PROBLEM: The PowerExec Hard Drive Bay Adapter will not function in a Premmia LX desktop. CAUSE: The Premmia LX supports up to four IDE drives on the motherboard. To support this, the Premmia LX uses the I/O address range of 170-177h for the secondary hard disk adapter. Since the PowerExec Drive Bay Adapter is designed as a secondary hard disk adapter, it also uses the same I/O range causing a memory address conflict. SYSTEMS AFFECTED: All PowerExec Hard Drive Bay Adapters. AST REVISION PART NUMBER DESCRIPTION LEVEL 500985-001 P/EXEC HARD DISK RECEPTACLE All SOLUTION: 1) If the Premmia LX has two IDE hard drives or less, remove the PowerExec Drive Bay Adapter card. Using the IDE cable provided, directly connect the drive bay receptacle to the PCI IDE hard drive connector located at position J7H1 on the Premmia LX system board. 2) Enter CMOS SET-UP and verify that all hard drive types are set to AUTO. This will allow the PowerExec drive to be detected and configured automatically upon POST. CAUTION: In no case will AST Research, Inc. be liable for damage to the system or loss of data caused by improper or faulty installation of this file.
