= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 0989 9-26-94 = FILE NAMING CONVENTION FOR AST ON-LINE SERVICES PROBLEM: Filenames for files to be posted to AST On-Line Services are to be limited to 6 digit prefixes and 3 digit extensions. AST will provide common files to on-line services with consistent filenames. CAUSE: Files must inherit the lowest denominator of file naming schemes (CompuServe). SYSTEMS AFFECTED: All AST systems and products are affected. SOLUTION: Filenames will consist of the last nine characters less the part number revision number (A,B,C) for a released file. The file will be compressed and compiled into a self-extracting file with the ending .EXE. For example, AST P/N 911477-031A would be filename: 477031.EXE.
