    UNABLE TO INSTALL TRUE TYPE FONTS ON AST SYSTEMS THAT SHIP WITH WINDOWS


PROBLEM:        When installing True Type fonts on AST systems from the
                Windows Control Panel, the following error message is displayed
                on the screen:

                    " An error has occurred in your application.  If you chose
                    to Ignore, you should save your work in a new file.
                    If you chose Close, your application will terminate."

CAUSE:          Compressed True Type files in the Windows subdirectory cause
                the error message.

SYSTEMS
AFFECTED:       All AST systems that use the ASTDU disk utility.


CAUTION:        Before attempting the solution, it is advisable that you
                create the (6) Windows diskettes from the ASTDU Disk Utility.

SOLUTION:       1. Exit Windows completely by using the <ALT><F4> command.

                2. Type

                       CD\

                   and press the <Return> key.

                3. Type

                       CD\Windows\System

                   and press the <Return> key.

                4. Type

                       DEL *.??_

                   and press the <Return> key. This deletes the unnecessary
                   files.

                You can now run Windows and Install the True Type fonts.
