     INSTALLING A THIRD HARD DISK DRIVE IN PREMMIA LX AND ADVANTAGE! EXP60


        This is an informational bulletin.

        The procedure below states how to install a third hard disk drive in
        the Premmia LX and Advantage! EXP systems with system board part
        number 230822-002.

        1. Update to BIOS release. 1.11.  File <A HREF="ftp://ftp.ast.com/D-BIOS/537034.EXE">537034.EXE</A> can be found on
           AST's BBS in the Systems file area.  AST's BBS can be reached by
           dialing the following telephone number: (817) 230-6850.  AST's
	   BBS supports modem speeds up to 28.8k bps.
           
        2. Run CMOS Setup.
        3. Select "Advanced".
        4. Select "Peripheral Configuration".
        5. Set Configuration Mode to "Manual".
        6. Enable both PCI and Standard IDE Interface options.
        7. Exit and Save.

        The Premmia LX and Advantage! EXP systems will detect the third drive
        and display it as E: during POST.  The drive can then be accessed
        through DOS as drive E:.

        NOTE:  Step five must be followed even though the port may show as
        being enabled when mode is set to Auto.

        NOTE: The data transfer rate is considerably slower through the
        Standard port.

        NOTE:  The system must have the -002 system board.  The -001 system
        board does not contain the RZ1000 PCI to IDE I/O chip, even though the
        PCI IDE connector may be in place on some -001 system board revisions.
