= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1073 2-17-95 = MISSING CD-ROM DRIVER ON ADVANTAGE! ADVENTURE SYSTEMS PROBLEM Some Advantage! Adventure systems were shipped without the required drivers for the CD-ROM Subsystem. Symptoms include an inability to access the CD-ROM drive from a DOS prompt by entering "D:" CAUSE An incorrect process was used in building a limited number of hard drive software loads. SYSTEMS AFFECTED AST PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION 501693-XXX Advantage! Adventure 6066d 501695-XXX Advantage! Adventure 6075p 501696-XXX Advantage! Adventure 8075p 501697-XXX Advantage! Adventure 8090p SOLUTION Obtain the CD-ROM FIX diskette from the AST On-Line! BBS. The bootable diskette will autosense the installed hardware and install all appropriate drivers. File CDROMFIX.EXE can be found on AST's BBS (817) 230-6850. AST's BBS supports modem speeds up to 28.8k bps. 1. Connect to AST On-Line! BBS - US Phone 714-727-4132 (9600/14.4/28.8) - US Phone 714-727-4723 (2400) 2. Download CDROMFIX.EXE from the SYSTEMS area of the FILE library. 3. Create a temporary directory in C: 4. Copy the CDROMFIX.EXE file into the temporary directory. 5. From the temporary directory, run CDROMFIX to extract the required files. 6. Copy all the extracted files on to a bootable, formatted diskette. 7. Boot the system from the diskette.
