TITLE:  NCR Chipset & Arcada Backup Exec
 
 
ISSUE 
 
   When attempting to invoke the BESTART command after
   installing Arcada Backup Exec on a Netware file server, the 
   server may lock-up.  
   
   To correct directory mirror mismatches, the user may need to run 
   the VREPAIR.NLM file after the lock-up.
   
   This issue affects the Premmia GX and the Manhattan P,V, and G systems.    

 
BACKGROUND 
 
   According to Arcada Software, there currently is no version of 
   Arcada Backup Exec software that includes support for SCSI HBAs 
   using any of NCR's SCSI chips.  Although it may be possible to 
   get the software to load under certain conditions, it should not 
   be considered stable, and therefore should not be used.    

 
ACTION 
 
   Arcada has informed AST that although there have been a number of 
   calls generated by this issue, there are no present plans to 
   incorporate NCR SCSI support in their product.
   
   If an immediate fix is required, perform one of the following 
   steps:
   
   1. Run the backup device from an adapter that is
      supported by the software
   
      or
   
   2. Use a software package that includes NCR SCSI support.
