= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1111 3-20-95 = INSTALLING/UPGRADING TO THE AMD PCNET VER. 2.0 NDIS DRIVERS FOR BANYAN WORKSTATIONS PROBLEM When attempting to use the instructions contained in the Users Manual to set up the Premmia GX as a Banyan Vines workstation, using the Integrated Ethernet Adapter, the drivers may fail to load or other configuration related failures may occur. CAUSE The Premmia GX User's Manual, as well as the documentation on page 41 of the README file, disk two of the AMD Ethernet driver disk set, contain errors which may result in a failed installation. SYSTEMS AFFECTED AST PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION 501457-XXX PREMMIA GX P90 SOLUTION To accomplish a successful Banyan Vines workstation installation, follow the instructions outlined below. The values used in the following procedure assume the files are being installed in a directory called Banyan and the adapter set up for I/O Port 300, IRQ9, DMA5. Create a directory on your C: drive called Banyan. Install all Banyan-supplied workstation software into C:\Banyan. Copy the PCNTND.DOS driver file located in the MSLANMAN.DOS\DRIVERS\ETHERNET\PCNTND directory on the AMD drivers disk to C:\Banyan. Set network adapter @ port 300, DMA5, and IRQ9 (Any non conflicting configuration). Add the following lines to the CONFIG.SYS FILE: DEVICE=C:\BANYAN\PROTMAN.DOS /I:C:\BANYAN DEVICE=C:\BANYAN\PCNTND.DOS NOTE: The /I: switch tells PROTMAN where to look for the PROTOCOL.INI file. Create PROTOCOL.INI file which contains: [PROTMAN] DRIVERNAME=PROTMAN$ [PCNTND_NIF] DRIVERNAME = PCNTND$ IOADDRESS = 0X300 INTERRUPT = 9 DMACHANNEL = 5 RXBUFFERS = 4 TXBUFFERS = 4 [VINES_XIF] DRIVERNAME = NDISBAN$ BINDINGS = PCNTND_NIF Reboot the computer. Run Banyan's PCCONFIG utility and select NDIS Ethernet as Network Adapter. Be very careful to set bindings to match that paramater in the PROTOCOL.INI file, for example. PCNTND_NIF in this case. Select the NDIS Ethernet as the default adapter. Reboot and run BAN. The Banyan Vines login prompt. will appear on the screen.
