= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1117 3-28-95 = BRAVO MS-T P/90 BEEPS AT BOOTUP WITH ADAPTEC 1570 ADAPTER INSTALLED PROBLEM When a SCSI hard drive is connected to an Adaptec 1570, the adapter card may cause the Bravo MS-T P/90 system to generate beeps at bootup. CAUSE The Adaptec 1570 adapter card is not compatible with the Bravo MS-T P/90 Plug-n-Play system. During the ROM scan sequence, the Adaptec 1570 BIOS selects system memory occupied by BIOS housekeeping during POST. This area contains variables, tables, and pointers used to decide where Plug-n-Play resources are to be setup. The Adaptec BIOS uses this same area for its initialization, erasing the data needed for use later. When the beep code is generated, it usually wipes out a Memory Control Block the BIOS needs to finish its work. SYSTEMS AFFECTED AST PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION 501660-001 BRAVO MS-T P/90 SOLUTION Use an adapter card that is compatible with Plug-n-Play systems.
