= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1141 4-13-95 = MICROSOFT'S MSD FAILS TO LOAD ON ASCENTIA 9XXN PROBLEM Microsoft's MSD version 2.11 fails to load on the Ascentia 900N and 910N if Laplink Remote Access is loaded. The following error message is displayed; "EMM has detected error #06 in an application at memory address 00B8:1E89. To minimize the chance of data loss, EMM386 has halted your computer. For more information, see the README.TXT file. To restart your computer, press ENTER" If the key is pressed, the system reboots and fails to run Microsoft MSD. CAUSE There is an incompatibility between Traveling Software's Laplink Remote Access version 2.11 and Microsoft's MSD versions 2.01 or greater. This can be confirmed by calling Traveling Software's Technical Support at (206) 483-8088. SYSTEMS AFFECTED AST PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION All Ascentia 9XXN systems. SOLUTION There are three ways of avoiding this error and running Microsoft's MSD program: 1.Delete the Laplink TSR (Terminal Stay Resident) program C:\LLRA\LLRA1.EXE /C from the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Save the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and reboot the system and run MSD. 2. Remark out (REM) the Laplink TSR program from the C:\LLRA\LLRA1.EXE /C file. Save the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and reboot the system and run MSD. 3. EDIT the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and move the program C:\LLRA\LLRA1.EXE /C to the end or bottom of the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Save the new AUTOEXEC.BAT file and reboot. Then, if MSD is to be executed, issue the following command to remove the Laplink Remote Access program from memory; LLRA /U This will now allow MSD to be executed without the error message.
