= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1144 4-14-95 = NETWARE 3.11 BUG IN GRANT.EXE AND REVOKE.EXE PROBLEM Novell user names longer than 15 characters cause the Novell GRANT.EXE and REVOKE.EXE commands to fail in AST systems. CAUSE There is a bug under NetWare 3.11, and no patch to NetWare 3.12. SYSTEMS AFFECTED AST PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION All AST systems. SOLUTION Since there is no patch to fix this, the workaround is the only solution to NetWare 3.11 users. If the REVOKE or GRANT command is not working properly under Novell 3.11, one of the following can be the cause: 1. The user name can be over 15 characters in length ONLY when the total number of characters in the directory path (including back slashes) is less than 20 characters. 2. If the total number of characters in the directory path (including back slashes) is over 20 characters, the user's name can not exceed 15 characters.
