= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1150 4-11-95 = MANHATTAN P 5090 NETWARE 3.1X I/O PROCESS HANGS PROBLEM While performing disk I/O on the Manhattan P 5090 system, during file transfer, the I/O may hang. The monitor may indicate that there are current disk requests pending. The number of pending disk requests may range from 1 to 5. The server itself is not hung as the monitor can be exited and restarted. When restarted, the disk I/O will start up again and then eventually go back to the same hung state. A related issue may surface: if there are many file transfers in I/O on one channel, the other channel may be inaccessible. CAUSE With some tuning paramenters, file NCRSDMS3.DSK may cause I/O pending. SYSTEMS AFFECTED AST PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION 501502-XXX MANHATTAN P 5090 - All Models SOLUTION At the NetWare prompt, type LOAD NCRSDMS3.DSK without any tuning paramenter and press the key. The system will no longer hang during the I/O process.
