= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1160 4-28-95 = EMBEDDED NCR PCI SCSI AND EISACU V3.04/REL 1.04 PROBLEM When the embedded PCI SCSI is disabled through EISACU v3.04/REL 1.04, every time EISACU is run, the embedded PCI SCSI is re-enabled. No message appears to warn the user that the embedded SCSI has been re-enabled. CAUSE When selecting "Configure Computer", the previously saved configuration was viewed. EISACU read the actual CMOS settings and displayed them. The customer then has the option to make additional changes to the EISA configuration. This process is not available in the current EISACU for the Manhattan P & V systems. SYSTEMS AFFECTED AST PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION 501500-00X Manhattan V system 501502-00X Manhattan P system SOLUTION Until there is an update to the EISA configuration utility to eliminate this problem, please use the following steps to temporarily work around the issue: Boot the EISACU diskette. From the menus: Select: "Maintain System Configuration Diskette" Select: "Load a backup SCI file" Select: "SYSTEM.SCI" Select: "Review or modify hardware settings" The SYSTEM.SCI file will bring up the configuration with the embedded controller disabled, if that's how the embedded SCSI was saved in the previous configuration. Select: "Step 3: View or edit details" At this time, make any additional changes. Select: "Step 5: Save & exit" Select: "Save the configuration and restart the computer" NOTE: The embedded SCSI will remain disabled until it is activated by selecting "Configure Computer" in EISACU or when it is changed in the backup file, "SYSTEM.SCI", using the above instructions.
