		   INSTALLING BANYAN VINES WITH A DPT PM2022 SCSI CARD


PROBLEM

When installing Banyan Vines versions 4.1.1 through 5.54, following the 
directions in the SmartCache III User's Manual, causes the system to fail to 
boot after installation of the operating system.


CAUSE

The SmartCache III User's Manual incorrectly states that the SmartCache III 
card should be left at the default settings of IRQ 15 level, and with WD1003 
emulation disabled, in order to install Banyan Vines versions 4.1.1 and later.


SYSTEMS AFFECTED
AST PART NUMBER DESCRIPTION

All AST server systems which use DPT SmartCache III controllers, including 
Premium SE, Premmia SE, and Premmia MTE.


SOLUTION

The SmartCache III controller should be configured with the following 
settings through the EISA Configuration Utility, prior to installing Banyan 
Vines:

WD1003 Emulation:                  Enabled (primary)
Interrupt Number:                  14 Edge

If Banyan Vines has already been installed while the card was configured 
incorrectly, it must be reinstalled after the settings have been corrected, 
in order for the system to boot correctly.
