TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1183 5-15-95 = MANHATTAN G P60 SYSTEM HANGS WITH PCI IRQ CONFLICTS PROBLEM The NCR SCSI PCI controller and other PCI devices have a sharing problem with the same IRQ. Under NetWare, the Manhattan G system automatically dismounts SYS volume or reports a lost hardware interrupt error. CAUSE The system is using a BIOS prior to revision 1.05, and the CMOS held Last Working Configuration (LWC) needs to be cleared. SYSTEMS AFFECTED AST PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION 501530-XXX MANHATTAN G 5060 - ALL MODELS SOLUTION 1) Use the most current Manhattan G system BIOS, release 1.05 (AST BIOS part number 905555-032 A). Request the part number from AST Spare Parts (800) 727-1278, the local AST Authorized Service Center, or download file 555032.EXE from AST's BBS (817) 230-6850, "Systems" file area. The above file will also be posted on: CompuServe Go ASTSUPPORT AST Worldwide Web Site http://www.ast.com For additional information on the Manhattan G System BIOS, see Software Bulletin # 0220 in the SBS library of AST's BBS. 2.) After the new BIOS is flashed into the system, remove the battery to drain the CMOS storage. This will clear the ESCD for the PCI/Plug-n-Play CMOS RAM. After these steps are taken, the system will use different IRQs for the add-in cards performing to designed specifications. NOTE Even though a new BIOS is flashed into the system, the new BIOS will continue to use the old BIOS's LWC which is stored in the CMOS RAM. The system can only be completely reconfigured if the CMOS battery is removed and the LWC is erased.
