ADVANTAGE! ADVENTURE 14.4 MODEM CONNECTION PROBLEMS


PROBLEM

The Advantage! Adventure system may be unable to connect to on-line services 
at 14,400 baud rate.


CAUSE

The factory default initialization string settings for the Advantage! 
Adventure modem at times have difficulty connecting at 14,400 baud rate.  
The quality of the telephone line may not be sufficient to allow reliable 
communications over the full bandwidth expected by the modem, even with line 
compensation.  For example, the telephone line may be affected by weather 
conditions, static noise, etc.  In such cases, this modem incorporates 
fallback capabilities.  When the top speed does not work, the modem attempts 
to communicate at lower speeds that are less critical of telephone line 
quality.


SYSTEMS AFFECTED

Any Advantage! Adventure systems that use modem part number 202640-005.


SOLUTION

The initialization strings (listed below) for the Starbright modem 
(P/N#202640-005), used with the following communication software, may improve 
the connection at the modem's baud rate:
