= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1192 5-22-95 = POWERSTATION III AND EASYPORT III SUSPENDING ASCENTIA 910N This is an informational bulletin. If the Ascentia 910N is placed on the tray of the PowerStation III or the EasyPort III, and it is not physically connected, one of the following may happen: 1) When powered ON and placed on the tray of the PowerStation III or the EasyPort III, the Ascentia 910N will go into suspend mode. 2) When placed on the tray of the PowerStation III or the EasyPort III, the Ascentia 910N will not boot up. This is not a problem. The unit is functioning as designed. There is a proximity switch on the Ascentia 910N that senses when it is placed on the tray of the PowerStation III or the EasyPort III. This switch either puts the system into suspend mode if the unit has already been powered ON, or does not allow the system to be powered ON. When placed in the tray, the Ascentia 910N needs to be connected to the PowerStation III or EasyPort III to function properly. The PowerStation III and the EasyPort III, together with the Ascentia 910N, are designed to support Windows 95 Plug-n-Play features. This support allows the system to be connected to either docking device without damaging any of the installed peripherals. This will allow the Ascentia 910N, with Windows 95 installed, to recognize all the devices connected to the docking devices. NOTE The Ascentia 910N requires BIOS version 3.XX or higher to fully support Windows 95 Plug-n-Play features. BIOS version 3.XX will be released in the near future.
