= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1201 6-6-95 = OS/2 WARP INSTALL HANGS WITH MANHATTAN G590 PROBLEM The Manhattan G590 may hang during the installation of OS/2 Warp, when installing from a CD-ROM and the NCR 8150 SCSI controller. CAUSE In order to install OS/2 Warp from CD-ROM, the user first must create two floppy disks from the CD-ROM to start the installation process. OS/2 places SCSI .ADD drivers on the disks in a specific order, and these drivers will be used in the installation process to identify SCSI controllers in the system. The system will only hang under the following conditions: 1. The user creates the diskettes from the CD-ROM drive; 2. The user later manually adds the DPT20XX.ADD driver (for the DPT PM3224 PCI SCSI Controller) to the disks; 3. The DPT PM3224 is not installed in the system. During the installation, OS/2 will attempt to load the DPT20XX.ADD driver. This will cause the system to hang if the DPT PM3224 is not present in the system. SYSTEMS AFFECTED AST PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION 501723-XXX MANHATTAN G590 All Models SOLUTION Create a new set of diskettes from the OS/2 CD-ROM. The problem will only occur if the DPT20XX.ADD driver has been added to the diskettes after their initial creation.
