= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1216 6-6-95 = MANHATTAN G590 RECOGNIZES ONLY 64MB PROBLEM When the Manhattan G590 is configured with more than 64MB of system memory, only the first 64MB of memory will be recognized under Windows NT 3.5 and Novell Netware 4.1. When attempting to manually register the memory under Novell 4.1, the system will recognize all but the last 16MB of installed memory. CAUSE Windows NT 3.5 and Novell Netware 4.1 require an INT15 call to recognize greater than 64MB of memory in the system. SYSTEMS AFFECTED AST PART NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION REVISION 501723-XXX MANHATTAN G590 All Models SOLUTION Manhattan G590 BIOS release 2.00 (P/N 905545-038) adds the INT15 call to the BIOS allowing Windows NT 3.5 to automatically detect and use all memory in the system, up to the maximum 128MB. File 05545038.EXE can be found on AST's BBS (817) 230-6850, in the "Systems" file area. AST's BBS supports modem speeds up to 28.8k bps. The above file will also be posted on: CompuServe Go ASTSUPPORT AST Worldwide Web Site http://www.ast.com For further information on the Manhattan G590 BIOS, see Software Bulletin # 0186 in the SBS library of AST's BBS. Novell Netware 4.1 requires BIOS release 2.00 to use memory above 64MB. However, Novell Netware will not automatically detect the memory over 64MB. The memory must be manually registered through Novell Netware 4.1 in order to be used by the system. For more information on manually registering system memory, see your Novell Netware documentation.
